Iconic movies from the 2000s you should watch if you feel like passing through memory lane

What, like it’s hard? The 2000s was the perfect era for movies. All of the girl power movies made in that period are golden.

Films like Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Clueless, and Princess Diaries gave birth to the iconic pop culture of powerful female characters. Also, during this era, comedy movies were at their finest like White Chicks. These movies are THE standard.

So, it only fits that as we continue to be stuck in lockdown, we watch and rewatch these nostalgic films. They remind us of simpler times, moments that takes us back to days that were easier and more laid back.

Here are the most iconic movies from the 2000s and why you should watch them (again!):

1. Legally Blonde (2001)

What’s it about: Elle Woods, an aspiring lawyer clad in pink, is about to prove everyone who doubted her wrong.

Watch this movie if: You need some feel-good motivation to kick ass and achieve your goals!

Iconic line: What, like it’s hard? However, “Oh, I like your outfit too, except, when I dress up as a frigid b*tch, I try not to look so constipated” is my favorite!

2. Mean Girls (2004)

What’s it about: Cady Heron, a new student who just moved from Africa, explores the wild jungle life that is high school.

Watch this movie if: You need a reminder that popularity is fleeting. Also, in love and friendship, personality matters too!

Iconic line: On Wednesdays we wear pink.

3. Clueless (1995)

What’s it about: Cher Horowitz, a rich, popular high school student, gives a klutzy student a significant glow-up. In the process, she knows more about herself and discovers new romance!

Watch this movie if: You want some fashion outfit inspirations for your next OOTD!

Iconic line: “You’re a virgin who can’t drive.” But Cher’s speech on partying with Haitians really takes the cake for me. “And in conclusion, may I please remind you that it does not say “RSVP” on the Statue of Liberty?

4. White Chicks (2004)

What’s it about: Two FBI agent brothers, Marcus and Kevin Copeland, go undercover as two beautiful blonde heiresses in a Hamptons event.

Watch this movie if: You want to forget about the whole pandemic and have a good laugh.

Iconic line: Triple TKA….. time to totally kick ASS!

5. 13 Going on 30 (2004)

What’s it about: On her 13th birthday, young Jenna Rink makes a wish to be a grown-up upon a dollhouse filled with magic wishing dust. When she wakes up the following day, she’s a fully-grown 30-year-old woman.

Watch this movie if: You want to be able to appreciate both the perks of being young and being an adult!

Iconic line: Can you tell I’m wearing underwear? ‘Cause I totally am.

6. Princess Diaries (2001)

What’s it about: Mia Thermopolis, a nerdy and awkward teenager, has her life turned around when she discovers that she’s the long-lost Princess of Genovia.

Watch this movie if: You love glow-ups and character makeovers!

The world, as we know it, is changing. Yet, the feeling we get from watching these 2000s films won’t. They are our comfort staples, and that’s why they will forever be unique to all of us, especially to the 9-year-old me who eagerly waited for her parents to admit that I was the princess of an unknown faraway country (still waiting!).
