Affordable 90’s cars you can still find in the PH market

It’ll be a while before the 90’s car scene catches up with the ever-changing fashion favourites, but that means there are still some great low-cost classics out there. If you’re into retro and vintage things—and if you choose wisely—you can enjoy a great road trip with your loved ones after spotting these affordable 90s cars that are still in the PH market.

1996 Honda Civic 1.6 VTi

The 1996 Honda Civic 1.6 VTi Sedan was produced from January 1996 to October 1998. It has a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that develops 160 horsepower at 7600 revolutions per minute.

This is the most powerful Honda Civic version from 1996 to 2001, developing 153 Nm (Newton-meters) of torque at 7000 rpm. Honda Civic 1996 has a price ranging from ₱100,000 to ₱250,000 depending on its condition.

In safety tests, the Honda Civic received 3 stars out of 5, which corresponds to an average safety level. Rated 3 stars for adult safety and 2 stars for pedestrian protection. 

1990 Nissan Sentra Sedan

Pre-owned models of the 1990 Nissan Sentra Sedan are equipped with a 1.6-liter petrol engine with a power output of up to 90 hp, depending on the engine type. Available gearboxes include 5 speed manual transmission. 

Built in Santa Rosa, Laguna, the classic Nissan Sentra effortlessly made a name for itself in the 90s. Depending on the condition and generation, its price ranges from ₱70,000 to ₱130,000 

1996 BMW 316i

This car comes with 4 doors and 5 seats, sold new from year 1993 until 1998, and available as a used car thereafter. With 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration of 12.7 seconds, a top speed of 195 km/h and a curb weight of 2624 lbs (1190 kg), this classic 90s car has a lot to offer.

Equipped with an in-line 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, its engine produces a maximum power output of 102 hp (101 hp – 75 kW) at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 150 Nm (110 lb.ft) at 3900 rpm. Its delivering road power via rear wheel drive (RWD) comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Toyota Corolla

The most common old school Corollas sold in the Philippines are the 6th and 7th generation sedans. These Corollas are known as small body (6th generation) and big body (7th generation).

1996 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.3 GLXi

Mitsubishi Lancer 1.3 GLXi is a 1996 sedan model with a 5-speed manual transmission. With a power output of 55 KW, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 12.5 seconds. It can also reach a top speed of 170 km/h with a city consumption of 9.2 l/100 km.

Its engine has a displacement of 1298 cm3, has 4 cylinders in line with 3 valves per cylinder. This model comes with weights using coil springs in the front suspension and a single coil spring in the rear suspension. 

The price of 1996 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.3 GLXi ranges from ₱80,000 to ₱180,000 depending on its condition.

Some 90’s cars are still available at affordable prices, but beware of wrecks and salvage cars that sell for big bucks. That include cars sold in mint condition. Repair costs may be higher than the actual price which might give you more trouble in the future. Hence, above being in love with classics, you must always choose wisely.
