How owning a pet changed my lifestyle

We have all heard people refer to pets as “just” animals, as if their role in our lives was meaningless. These people probably haven’t ever had a faithful dog or a devoted cat, and their statements couldn’t be more unsubstantiated. The majority of pet owners will know how wonderful it is to own a pet, as well as the companionship and lovely ties that can develop between animals and people. From the moment I brought my furry friend home, my daily routine and habits have changed for the better.

There are countless advantages to having a pet. Here are some for me:

Having a pet made me more responsible

Owning a pet has made me more responsible and disciplined. Before I had my shih tzus – Lily and Jasmine, whom I call my daughters, I had a somewhat carefree attitude toward my daily routine. However, now that I have a furry friend who relies on me for food, exercise, and care, I have had to develop a consistent schedule. I wake up early every morning to take my pet for a walk and ensure that I return home on time in the evening to spend time with them. This has helped me prioritize my daily tasks and become more organized.

They are good for my health

Secondly, having Lily and Jasmine in my life has made me more active and healthier. As a fur mom, I have to take my pet for walks, play with them, and ensure that they get enough exercise. This means I am also getting more physical activity, improving my overall health and well-being. I have also become more mindful of my diet, as I now have to ensure that I am feeding them a healthy and balanced diet. As a result, I have started to eat more nutritious foods and cut down on junk food.

Having a pet made me more social and outgoing

Thirdly, being with them has helped me become more social and outgoing. Through the years, I have met many other fur parents in my neighborhood or at the malls while taking my pet for walks. This has given me the opportunity to interact with new people and make new friends. I have also joined online communities of pet owners, where we share advice and experiences. And being part of such communities has helped me connect with people who share the same interests and passions as I do.

They offer emotional support

Lastly, they brought more joy and happiness into my life. They do not ask for much in life; most only need a warm, safe, and sheltered place to live and adequate food, water, and exercise. In return, they will give you their undying love, fidelity, and company. Lily and Jasmine are always there to greet me when I come home, and their unconditional love and affection have significantly impacted my mental health. They are always ready to cuddle, play, and offer comfort when I am feeling down. The sense of companionship and love that I get from my pet is invaluable, and I cannot imagine life without them.

Having them changed me and filled my life with so much love and joy. It has made me more responsible, active, social, and happier. While owning a pet requires effort and dedication, the rewards are immense. And if you will ask if it’s difficult? A little bit, but the happiness they bring makes it all worthwhile. I will be forever grateful for them and will continue to cherish every moment I spend with them.
