Switching to a Menstrual Cup Is a Game Changer

Switching to a Menstrual Cup Is a Game Changer

Tired of a messy, bad-smelling, and costly period? Make a switch now!

Every person who has a period seeks for a comfortable, mess-free, and cheaper way to manage their menstruation.

Before using a menstrual cup, I change my pad every three to four hours during my period. And take note: I was using an all-night pad which has a longer and wider design for extended front and back protection from leaks during the night. Obviously.

One thing that I hate the most during menstruation is when you run out of pads and you need to buy more while fighting the throbbing pain inside that punches your lower abdomen aka menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea).

Not to mention the leaks on panties and sheets! Ugh!

Basically, I turn to pads when it’s that time of the month. Until I found a better product for periods: menstrual cups.

What is a menstrual cup?

A menstrual cup is a reusable feminine hygiene product. Appears to be in a form of bell-shaped containers, typically made from silicone, rubber, or latex. This gets tucked inside the vagina to collect menstrual flow. Women wash and reuse their menstrual cups for years at a time making them a cheaper option than tampons or pads.

How to use a menstrual cup

If you’re interested in using a menstrual cup, talk with your gynecologist and search more about it. Although you can buy any of the menstrual cup brands online, you’ll first have to find out what size you need.

To figure out the right menstrual cup size for you, you and your doctor should consider:

  • your age
  • length of your cervix
  • whether or not you have a heavy flow
  • firmness and flexibility of the cup
  • cup capacity
  • if you’ve given birth vaginally

Smaller menstrual cups are often recommended for women younger than 30 years old who haven’t delivered vaginally. Larger sizes are usually recommended for women who are over 30 years old, have given birth vaginally, or have a heavier period.

Why should I switch to menstrual cup?

Menstrual cups could be a game-changer.

  • affordable
  • safer than other menstrual products such as tampons and pads
  • can be worn for up to 12 hours
  • holds more blood
  • collects menstrual fluid and not absorbing it, avoids dryness in your feminine area
  • sustainable and eco-friendly
  • no odor, since the menstrual fluid isn’t exposed to air
  • comfortable (literally, you can’t feel it)

With the use of a menstrual cup, I worry less about the crimson tide showing on my pants. It made my period easier and less stressful. No more ruined undies, and no more buying pads while walking uncomfortably.

So, what are you waiting for? Make a switch now.
