Murder, Mystery, and Makeup: Narratives by Bailey Sarian

Beauty tutorials come in a variety of formats but combining real-life drastic murder stories with makeup is an unusual combination we can’t get enough of. Bailey Sarian, a YouTube vlogger currently with 6.66 million subscribers, with endearing charm and a sense of humor is what convert casual channel viewers into devoted followers, in addition to the compelling and clever way her videos combine two very different concepts.

However, what makes her videos more captivating is Bailey’s excellent storytelling abilities, which enable her to make any subject sound as though she is speaking with a friend. The vlogger makes watching true crime as exciting as listening to gossip stories, making you laugh instead of cringing and averting your eyes and ears. You can easily binge-watch her entire playlist, I assure you!

How did the Murder, Mystery, and Makeup series start?

Bailey Sarian was always fond of makeup and had previously worked for Sephora and Urban Decay. Sarian began her YouTube career in 2013 with traditional makeup tutorials. When she asked her subscribers if they would like her to discuss true crime in her videos, the response was highly encouraging. Thus, the Murder, Mystery, and Makeup series was born.

Bailey's Q&A YouTube video

In one of her Q&A videos on YouTube, she shared a backstory about how her mother is a 9-1-1 dispatcher, occasionally taking little Bailey to her workplace.

We laugh about it now because it probably wasn’t the best idea to be taking a 10- or 11-year-old to sit in and listen to 9-1-1 calls, because no one’s calling 9-1-1 to report anything good.

The first case that captured Bailey’s attention was the notorious unsolved slaughtering of six-year-old pageant star JonBenét Ramsey, which happened in 1996 but occasionally still makes the news cycle. Sarian is so fixated on the investigation that she makes the joke that if she could ask God only one question before she passes away, it would be, “Who did it?”

Jeffrey Dahmer: Inside His Messed-Up Mind and How He Almost Got Away

Following the recently released Jeffry Dahmer Netflix series this year, this video is currently her most viewed YouTube video, with a whopping 25 million views. Bailey was able to go over all of the details of the Jeffrey Dahmer case in this video. It tells the story of a convicted serial killer and sex offender who takes part in necrophilia, body part preservation, and cannibalism. And as mentioned in her title, how crazy it is how close he came to getting away with it.
