Bittersweet Fruit of being a Working Student

Being a working student and full time employee in a BPO industry is a mixed bag of challenges and opportunities. Answering phone calls at night and attending class in the morning can be overwhelming. On the other hand, it opens the door to personal growth, financial independence and self-discovery.

Challenges and benefits of being a working student

Time Management

Balancing a full-time job and academic responsibilities can be physically and mentally exhausting. Late-night shifts combined with early morning classes create sleep deprivation, making it difficult to remain focused and productive. Furthermore, the pressure to excel in both spheres can lead to burnout, leaving little time for leisure activities or socializing. It is not uncommon for working students in the BPO sector to experience anxiety and stress due to the demanding nature of their responsibilities.

Financial Independence

However, despite the challenges, being a working student in the BPO industry also presents numerous opportunities. Financial independence is one of the significant advantages that attract many students to the sector. Being a call center agent offers competitive salaries and attractive benefits, allowing students to support themselves financially and lessen the burden on their families. While most of my peers relied on their parents for financial support, I was able to contribute to my own expenses. It gave me a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that I could shoulder some responsibilities at such a young age.

Self-discovery

Another fruit of being a working student in the BPO industry is the opportunity for personal growth and development. The industry demands adaptability, time management, and problem-solving skills. These skills are not only essential for excelling in the workplace but also applicable in daily life. The BPO industry provides a platform to enhance these skills, enabling students to develop a strong work ethic, resilience, and multitasking abilities. The industry’s fast-paced environment also fosters a sense of urgency and responsibility, creating a foundation for self-discipline and efficiency.
