Painless Root Canal Treatment by Doc Darwin Ferrolino at Variahealth

Are you suffering from tooth pain or discomfort? It’s crucial to schedule a dentist’s examination immediately to prevent any worsening conditions. You may need a Root Canal Treatment.

For years, I’ve endured recurring pain in my front tooth but always hesitated to see a dentist due to past traumatic experiences. Until I met Doctor Darwin Ferrolino of Variahealth.

Dental Check-up with Doctor Darwin Ferrolino of Variahealth

Upon my visit to Dr. Darwin, my primary concern revolved around teeth whitening. As I entered my 30s, my teeth had become yellowish, and my front tooth stood out as notably darker yellow. Moreover, it causes a significant source of my insecurity.

Following a comprehensive examination, dental x-ray analysis, and a thorough discussion of my dental history, Dr. Darwin identified an infection in my front tooth as the root cause of the recurrent pain and prominent yellow discoloration. He recommended a root canal treatment before initiating the teeth whitening procedure as part of the restoration process.

What is a Root Canal treatment?

A root canal treatment is a procedure used to restore teeth that have been deeply damaged by dental caries.

According to Doc Darwin.

This dental procedure, known as endodontic therapy, aims to eliminate infections within a tooth. Moreover, a successful procedure can safeguard the tooth against future infections.

According to Doc Darwin, inadequate oral hygiene and infrequent dental visits contribute to the proliferation of bacteria in our mouths. These bacteria are responsible for dental cavities. Moreover, it leads to the formation of holes in the teeth due to tooth decay. Furthermore, this bacterial activity can result in an infection within a person’s tooth’s root canal or pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels and nerves, which supply moisture to the adjacent tooth and play a role in temperature and pressure sensation. When a person experiences pain, it is the pulp that signals a compromised area, indicating the need for a dental check-up.

When is Root Canal Treatment recommended?

According to Doc Dar, there are different scenarios to consider when deciding to undergo this treatment. Some common considerations include:

1. When a patient experiences recurring and intense pain even after a dental filling treatment.

2. When an X-ray reveals the presence of a channel or cystic lesion, indicating that infection may be draining.

3. Significant tooth damage or recurrent issues post-filling, implying possible pulp infection by bacteria.

In my case, I exhibit all three of these symptoms, which, according to Doc Dar, have developed over the years due to neglecting treatment after my dental filling and infrequent dental visits. Additionally, Doc Dar mentioned that a root canal treatment would eliminate the infected nerves and disrupt the blood supply, rendering the tooth nonvital. Nevertheless, it stands as the optimal solution for preserving damaged teeth, rather than opting for a “Pasta” (dental filling) again or total removal.

However, the Root Canal Treatment procedure has some limitation, including the age of patients; children are not recommended for this treatment since their dental infrastructure are not yet fully developed. Moreover, Pregnant women may still take the treatment as long as it is not in their first three trimesters. Furthermore, it is not true that there will be complications for people having high blood pressure.

The Root Canal Procedure at Variahealth

The procedure can be done in a single visit at Variahealth or any other clinic. Initially, I was very hesitant to undergo the procedure due to my traumatic experiences with dental operations. My sister had a similar procedure at a different clinic, which left her in intense pain afterward. However, Doc Dar was persistent and assured me that the procedure at Variahealth was 100% safe and painless. After reading positive reviews and receiving recommendations from friends, I decided to give it a try.

The procedure in my case was as follows:

  • Doc Dar injected a local anesthetic into the area surrounding my affected tooth. In less than a minute, my gums became numb.
  • Doc Dar placed a small rubber dam over my mouth, effectively isolating the affected tooth, and ensuring it stayed dry throughout the procedure.
  • To access the pulp, he removed the existing dental filling, revealing a small opening in the tooth’s crown.
  • Doc Dar started inserting tiny dental instruments into my front tooth, which initially seemed scary but was actually painless. He explained the procedure gently. According to Doc Dar, the procedure involves removing the nerves, blood vessels, tissues, and infection inside the tooth.
  • In my case, Doc Darwin found a severe abscess buildup at the bottom of the affected tooth. After cleaning the pulp and removing pus using the tiny dental instruments, he injected an antibacterial solution inside the tooth to aid in the healing process. Then, he temporarily sealed the tooth’s opening, prescribed a regimen of antibiotics to be taken three times daily for a week, and arranged for a follow-up appointment in five days.

Upon returning after five days, some abscess was still present in the area surrounding the affected tooth. Doc Dar once again injected an antibacterial solution and advised me to continue taking antibiotics, scheduling another follow-up in four days.

Finally, during my next appointment with Doc Dar, the area had fully healed, confirmed through another dental X-ray. I was relieved at that time.

  • Doc Dar proceeded to fill the canals with a flexible, rubbery dental material called gutta-percha. Since my tooth was still in good condition, there was no need for a custom-made crown or fabrication. Doc simply sealed the tooth to prevent bacteria from re-entering.

Surprisingly, I didn’t experience any pain or discomfort throughout these procedures. If you’re considering a root canal, I highly recommend Variahealth. Although it was a lengthy process for me, I am to blame for not regularly seeking dental care. I endured this for almost a decade, and I urge you not to make the same mistake.

Cost of Root Canal Treatment

Regarding the cost, root canal treatments vary in price depending on the clinic and location. Variahealth offers competitive prices for various procedures and scenarios, but I can’t provide a specific price since your condition may differ from mine. I suggest calling Variahealth’s hotline to inquire.
