I sell disinfectants so I can publish a book.

I work from home 8 hours a day for 6 days on my regular job, but sometimes I would extend depending on the need of it (I mostly extend because there’s a lot of need for it), and I am currently editing my manuscript with my mentor and editor before I can self-publish it.

At the back of my mind, something was missing—I wanted to earn more. These times are tough, and I’m the only one with a job in the family, so I have to step up my game. Lucky for me, I’m competitive and brave enough to try.

Also, it would truly help me fund my self-publishing journey.

So, I came across Hygeia because of a friend. It’s an all-purpose, water-based, alcohol-free disinfectant that has benzalkonium chloride as an active ingredient, approved by Health Canada’s list of hard-surface disinfectants with evidence against COVID-19 (link for reference: click the link here)

I’m like, okay, this looks promising. Why not sell some? Listen, I just turned 22 this year and I’m taking my risks well. So I bought a spray bottle, used it, and of course, my initial reaction was, “oh wow, it’s like water.” My customers could relate.

Sanitize, disinfect, and deodorize.

THEN I DID SOMETHING STUPID. I sprayed it in the air and inhaled it. I inhaled a toxic chemical and it hurt my nostrils and my throat. So, yes, it’s not water, guys. Don’t do what I just did. Be smart.

I decided to be smart a little too late when I asked my brother, a registered Medical Technologist, about the chemical after that incident. Yes, he’s familiar with benzalkonium chloride. Yes, they use it to disinfect their areas in the hospital and clinics. And yes, I was stupid to try and suck it in my system. Don’t worry, I’m alive and I drank plenty of water after that.

If you don’t believe me, go to your bathroom, look at the nasty watermarks on your shower knobs and whatnot, spray some Hygeia, and wipe it clean. Thank me later. *wink wink*

It’s so handy because it’s all-in-one.
You can disinfect your clothes after going out just to fetch some delivery or mail, or just attack your family member with it if they’re coming home from work or something.
You can disinfect your shoes and your feet.
You can sanitize your kids’ toys.
You can clean your gadgets and disinfect them.
You can use it as a sanitizer on your hands and it does not dry your hands so it’s perfect for those with sensitive skin.
You can use it as a deodorizer.
You can use it to spray on public toilets before you do your thing and just feel safe.
And a lot more.

I was so grateful for having to come across this product at the time of me wanting to do more with my life, help myself get to the top as early as I can, achieve my goals in the littlest ways I can, and also help other people.

Being a neat freak myself, and having skin asthma, this disinfectant has been really helpful for me. It’s locally made (support local), it’s affordable, and it’s effective. I couldn’t be any more thankful for this.

Since it’s not so well-known either, I’m grateful to be able to share it with the people around me as best as I could. I make my own advertising materials, too. I’m like a one-woman company. I work a normal job by day, create posts and videos at night and post them early in the morning.

I get a lot of credit for the posts that I do, too. They’re mostly for Instagram and Facebook stories, but I always put 100% into everything I do, no matter how small or large. This is just how I work, too. I don’t like “pwede na ‘yan”. Okay, sometimes yes, but the “pwede na ‘yan” in a way like, okay I’m not a professional artist, graphic designer, or content creator, but it’s good enough for people to enjoy. That is my “pwede na ‘yan”, and the only kind I will accept.

Clean is now in.

I don’t like taking content from other people, so I make my own. I don’t like depending on other people for things, so I work hard for it. It’s a way for me to grow as a person, as an individual, and will probably help me become successful one day. And also, I don’t get to burden anyone. Hopefully.

With these ads, I got to inform the people in my community about the product, about the ways it can be used, what it’s for, why I’m doing what I’m doing, and enhancing the skills I already have.

People might say I’m working too much, or at my age, I’m working on a lot, but hey, life’s too short to act on things too late. An opportunity has presented itself right in my face and I’m just going to let it pass? NO! Never, EVER, do that.

A CEO of a local cosmetics line once told all her Tiktok followers (I don’t have a Tiktok account okay, I just have the app for inspirational purposes) these inspirational words: “Huwag matakot”. She was referring to starting a business or investing in something you know you can do, and she was not wrong.

It’s true that it all starts from within yourself. If you know you can do something, and you believe that you can, go for it. You will never know until you try. At my age, I’m multi-tasking a lot of things. So far, I have no regrets.

There will be challenges. It’s a thing. But as humans, we’re built to conquer that.

And here I am doing just that.

I’m a 22-year-old regular employee and Filipino author who sells an all-purpose disinfectant and offering a win-win situation for you—help a kid reach for her dreams of inspiring the youth with her work, and fight off COVID-19 with Hygeia.
