Unlike how Apple releases a new iPhone every year, AirPods do not get the same release window period. These Apple’s trademarks in wearable tech only receive updates once every two to three years. Since the first regular AirPods launched in 2016, it only received twice for its update. While the 2019 AirPods Pro has not yet received any updates.
Given the three-year gap, are we going to get the new AirPods Pro 2 this year? And should Apple releases it this year along with the release of the much-awaited iPhone 14 lineup, what are we going to get? Some of the biggest rumored changes are as follow:
There is a rumor that a more compact design, one that eliminates the stem entirely for AirPods Pro is now getting tested. Doing this step though would make the upcoming AirPods look similar to the existing earbuds on the market.
Though a complete change in the device’s size and design would mean a smaller case unit would be available, too. Truly, Apple is investing more in devices that are compact but still able to do their job.
The second-generation AirPods Pro will feature a “significantly upgraded” wireless chip compared to the H1 chip in the original one. This new chip will provide a couple of major improvements in some areas. Audio, Active Noise Cancellation, and the Transparency Mode among others.
With the new chip that will be more powerful than the current one in AirProds Pro, battery life will be better. This upgrade is badly needed, indeed. Because the current Pro model actually has the worst battery life of any AirPods that Apple has ever released. Compared to the 2nd and 3rd Gen of AirPods that last 5 and 6 hrs respectively, the original Pro only lasts for 4.5 hrs.
Upon the release of AirPods Pro in 2019, the Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) and Transparency Mode among others were first featured in it. Thus, the price of $250 (12,500 Php) was somehow justifiable. But today, every earbuds manufacturer selling similar products with ANC at a low price. Thus, Apple should drop its high price to compete with the other brands.
With these significant improvements in the upcoming Apple AirPods Pro 2, is it going to be worth it? But most of all, are we really getting these new AirPods this 2022?
