Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse reinvents animation and the multiverse theory

The origin story

Being a superhero with powers is no joke and as said by Uncle Ben, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” The burden of this responsibility can be heavy and restricting for anyone, especially a teenager.

Another problem is feeling that everyone is against you and making you feel selfish when you finally choose yourself over others.

Every choice Miles and the other spider characters in the spider-verse make us question if being a superhero is a choice or a predetermined destiny.

4 years in the making

The first film received high praise for its particular attention to detail in each art style used for each character, and frames per second used, and took it to a whole another level for the second film.

The long wait for this sequel was well worth it.

From animation style to every easter egg shown in the film, left everyone watching hooked and hungry for more. Along with the great animation were the fantastic voice actors that truly breathe life into each character in the film.

Shameik Moore who voices Miles, stars alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Jake Johnson, Karan Soni, and Oscar Isaac. This cast gave emotion and diversity to the film.

And to give much more authenticity to each character, directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson collaborated with writers and actors for ideas on how to fully bring their characters to life.

The producers also got a 14-year-old kid to join the crew of animators to create a scene for the movie just because the child shared his work on YouTube which gained the attention of our lovely producers about a few months before the launch of the film.

Evolution of animation

Many of the fans left the cinemas quite in awe of the film for its spectacular visuals and immersive storytelling. Many even claim that it is the greatest Spider-Man movie ever made. Others claim it is an evolution that breaks the mold of how animation is supposed to look.

This movie started an evolution for animation not just for its production quality but story-telling as well. The collaboration between production and actors prove to be a smart move as it became a hit for the viewers.

Superhero films can get superficial and non-relatable but Across the Spider-verse is connected with so many. It not only gave us a beautiful visual of a multiverse, but it also showcased the importance of family and trust.

Miles Morales’ story is unfinished so are the other spiders, and as more and more villains start to raise against our heroes, spider-man will always do what he feels is right.

Everyone we know is led to us by a choice whether it is made by us or someone else. So, even if it feels like we don’t have much control over our future, we always have a choice. Whether that’s good or not all we can do is have faith.

After all, that’s what it takes to wear the mask, it’s to have a leap of faith.
