Jona hits the high note as new ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ judge
Filipina singer Jona is the newest judge on the singing competition Tawag ng Tanghalan (TNT) on ABS-CBN’s noontime program, It’s Showtime.
On Monday, Jona graced the stage of the variety show to serenade the audience with her original songs. She sang three tracks, namely Tinatapos Ko Na, Maghihintay Ako, and ’Til the End of Time, along with the TNT quarterfinalists.
After her stunning performance, the hosts introduced Jona as the latest addition to TNT’s panel of judges. She will join the current hurados in determining the grand champion of Tawag ng Tanghalan’s sixth season.
Jona as the new Tawag ng Tanghalan judge
In an ABS-CBN News report, Jona expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the show. She said in a statement,
“Maraming salamat po sa napakamainit na pag-welcome sa akin dito sa It’s Showtime bilang pinakabagong hurado ng Tawag ng Tanghalan. Maraming, maraming salamat [din] po sa lahat po ng sumuporta.”
Furthermore, the fearless diva showed her eagerness to be a fearless judge who will help hone the contenders. She also looks forward to discovering new talents in the program.
“Excited ako at saka kinakabahan. [Ngayon pa lang] parang nilo-look forward ko nang sasakitt ang ulo ko. Ngayon pa lang talaga, nasaksihan ko ‘yung mga galing nila,” Jona stated.
Jona rose to fame after winning the GMA’s Pinoy Pop Superstar in 2005 before switching to ABS-CBN Network in 2016. Following her transfer, she voiced several soundtracks for series and films and became part of ASAP’s Birit Queens. She has also since released many albums and singles while venturing into acting and appearing in various television shows.
Meanwhile, Tawag ng Tanghalan is a staple segment of It’s Showtime since 2016. The competition features amateur singers competing against each other. The grand champion is selected from the contestants who advanced through the daily, weekly, and final rounds.
In February, TNT also welcomed Darren Espanto as its new judge.
Renzo is an introvert who prefers to do things at his own pace. Unlike most writers, he reads lazily. Watching Korean dramas at night is his constant source of comfort. Although oftentimes commended for being outspoken, he speaks better through writing than with his words.
