OPINION | OVERRATED OR UNDERRATED: Webcomics Edition
When it comes to webcomics, there is just too much for us to get a hold of. There are so many out there that we’ve yet to discover more. Reading these stories can be addicting for the thrill that they provide. However, sometimes, there are stories out there that are not worth the hype. I understand that everyone has different tastes in stories, thus these are mine.
Here are a few of the mangas, manhwas, and manhuas or webcomics I’ve read and rated whether they are overrated or underrated!
SOLO LEVELING
This is one of my all-time favorites. I couldn’t even remember how many times I’ve reread this. However, Solo Leveling for me is OVERRATED! Despite my love for the manhwa, that has to be said. Too many people hype it and too many people are hating on it for no reason. Solo Leveling is great. But, let’s be honest, it’s not the best when it comes to story building. The art is top-notch. However, the plot is mediocre and generic. But that’s probably why so many people read it. Still, my verdict for Solo Leveling is overrated! Next!
ATTACK ON TITAN
I’m a fan since 2017 but suddenly, it’s not as exciting as it was before. I’m a manga reader before watching the anime, and to be honest, the anime saved the manga. Attack on Titan for me is OVERRATED! Let me be frank, the art of the manga is really not the best. Even I am having a hard time figuring out who’s who. And the story? It’s incredibly slow-paced! Sure it has a few twists here and there but it’s not something never seen before though. It’s overhyped. Thus, my verdict for Attack on Titan is overrated! Moving on!
NAN HAO & SHANG FENG
This is probably something you haven’t read or heard right? Panels and parts of Nan Hao & Shang Feng have been circulating online as a meme that people thought was just fan art instead of a manhua having an actual plot. Nan Hao & Shang Feng is UNDERRATED! It has such fun and short comedic chapters that will leave you laughing at every panel. It’s a refreshing break from all the drama of manhuas. Nan Hao & Shang Feng is a must-read underrated manhua! Moving forward!
RETURN SURVIVAL
The apocalyptic type of story is so overrated nowadays. However, Return Survival is UNDERRATED! It’s different from your run-of-the-mill apocalypse trope. While the regression trope in manhwa is also overpopulated, what sets Return Survival different from these two common tropes is that it’s a mix of both! Imagine getting an apocalyptic, zombie, and regression manhwa in one. You get a thrilling and unpredictable story plot for webcomics! Return Survival should definitely be on your list! Such underrated manhwa! Finally to the last one!
NOBLESSE
This is another one of my favorite manhwas. Noblesse is such an UNDERRATED manhwa! People would usually give up reading because of its lengthy chapters, spanning around 500+. But it’s definitely worth the read! There’s no dull moment since if you’re not at the edge of your sit from all the action scenes, you’ll be clutching your stomach from laughter. Really, Noblesse can offer you every genre possible. Therefore, Noblesse is an underrated manhwa that you should add to your reading list right now!
My verdict might not sit well with others. However, these are simply my thoughts as someone who have read countless stories over the years. Whether we like it or not, our favorite webcomics might not be the favorite of others. And, that’s completely fine. The important thing is that we enjoy reading these stories to our hearts’ content.
