Moving to Bungo Stray Dogs 4th Season Episode 2 watch this preview:

What happened in Episode 2: The Day is a Dream, The Night is Real

From the looks of it, Episode 2 is funnier, crazier, and wittier than its premier. The roller coaster of emotion for Ranpo could leave you gasping for air. Sounds exaggerated, but yes. You will love Ranpo by watching this episode.

Continuing from what’s left on Episode 1, Fukuzawa and Ranpo are investigating a theater. With objectives of securing the safety of the audience and to capture the culprit. During the theatrical play, Fukuzawa is observing vigilantly. While Ranpo is annoyed at everyone being foolish for not knowing who the murderer is.

So, when it’s time for an intermission, Fukuzawa invites Ranpo because he will give the answer to his question: “what is, and who is a gifted?”. During the first half of the episode, it revolves in the dialogue of Fukuzawa and Ranpo. Trying to understand what it means to be gifted and having special ability. In order for Ranpo to understand what Fukuzawa is trying to unveil, Fukuzawa used his own experience or past to confide with Ranpo. And the remark of Fukuzawa makes sense to him.

Reaction in BSD Season 4 Episode 2: The Day is a Dream, The Night is Real

I am thinking, probably, every member of the Armed Detective Agency will get this same exposure and backstory like what happened to Fukuzawa and Ranpo. If that happens, goodness, this anime is superb, giving enough spotlight to “every” character. That sounds thrilling and we love it!

Going back to the story, here are the following observations and reactions I have:

First, changes of color from black and white to “colored bright” in the perspective of Ranpo. It is amazing how the dilemma of Ranpo as a fourteen-year-old kid has been comforted by Fukuzawa. He has been observing the skills and intelligence of Ranpo while the kid himself is unaware of his capabilities. The comforting word of Fukuzawa is a shed of light that gives clarity on questions in the mind of Ranpo, and leads to a potential enormous transition in the tides of his life in the future.

Second, the signature eyeglass given to Ranpo is a metaphor, but Ranpo wants to believe he is “gifted” like other special beings. This episode is satisfying to watch because finally we have an answer to our long pondering: “what is the history behind that eyeglass?” We all know that the special ability of Ranpo is his super deduction, thus, Fukuzawa giving him the moniker “The Famous/Greatest Detective” is the best decision that he made, infusing the kid with much needed confidence to face the society that is incomprehensible for him before meeting Fukuzawa.

After Ranpo receives enlightenment, validation, and recognition that he is intelligent, gifted, and special, he passionately believes that everyone, including Fukuzawa, is a “fool” like a child that needs guidance. From then, he became more entertaining and cunning. Thankfully, it is Fukuzawa that made Ranpo realize his ability because we know that Ranpo is guided by a decent man, and he is safe with Fukuzawa.

Lastly, I have biased review with Fukuzawa because he is the best guy in the agency, in my perspective at least. Kidding aside, I expect nothing less from Fukuzawa. He is assertive, insightful, and responsible. He understands that it is his role now to take care and assure the safety of Ranpo.

Worthy to note from the words of Fukuzawa: YOU ARE SPECIAL BECAUSE YOU ARE GIFTED.

It is remarkably amazing to watch the transition from noir drama to wacky realizations of Ranpo. But what will happen to Ranpo after seeing the mischievous grin of the officer that took him?

Stay tuned and look forward to its every Wednesday release. Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 Episode 3 is scheduled to launch on Wednesday, 18 January 2023: 11pm JST and 11:45pm PST.
