All About Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day is a holiday commemorating a family’s or individual’s mother, as well as maternity, maternal relationships, and mothers’ influence in society. Usually, we celebrate this on various days around the world, most notably in the months of March and May. Commercial interests usually drive similar festivities such as Father’s Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents’ Day.

The start of Mother’s Day

While some countries have celebrated matriarchial figures for centuries, the modern American version of the holiday began in the early twentieth century in the United States, thanks to Anna Jarvis. She organized the first Mother’s Day worship and celebration at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia.

Mother’s Day became an international holiday commemorating the respect, honor, and love that people have for their moms. The day honors their contributions, as well as the efforts of maternal bonding and their role in our society.

But, if there’s one thing your mother will appreciate the most, it’s spending quality time with you!

Your mom might like a yoga lesson, a mom-and-daughter movie, or a spa treatment, depending on her interests. Make her pancakes for Mother’s Day brunch, then plan a relaxing at-home spa day for her. Whatever you choose, these unique presents will be treasured by her.
