Oscar Best Actress winners Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence are joining forces in the upcoming Netflix movie, “Don’t Look Up”. Directed by Adam McKay, the story tells the journey of two astronomers who try to warn everyone of a meteorite hurtling towards Earth.
Oscar winners in one insane film
Aside from its insane plot, moviegoers can’t wait to see these two A-List actresses in one film. In the said film, their characters set out on a media tour to inform everyone that a meteorite is going to eviscerate the planet in six months’ time.
“I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call “a dynamite act”. And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way,” Adam said in his statement about making a movie with JLaw.
The director describes it as “a dark satire in the school of ‘Wag the Dog’, ‘Doctor Strangelove’, and ‘Network”, which, judging by the themes of those films, suggest the media tour won’t exactly sail smoothly. Adam, who won an Oscar for “The Big Short”, penned the script and will serve also serve as both director and producer.
“Adam has always had great timing when it comes to making smart, relevant and irreverent films that depict our culture,” said Scott Stuber, head of Netflix original films. “If he somehow ends up predicting planet Earth’s imminent demise, we’re excited to add this to our slate before it all comes to an end.”
The film was supposed to begin their production in April and expected to release later this year, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it might take sometime before the movie reaches the big screen. In fact, Netflix is yet to comment on the release date.
