This Year’s Top Video Games, as of March 2022

Due to delays from the COVID-19 pandemic, the first quarter of 2022 has become a perfect time to have a mayhem release of video games. We have taken it upon ourselves to list down the must-recommended video games from the slew of titles that have been released, as of March 2022.

ELDEN RING

Made in collaboration with fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, Elden Ring presents through third-person perspective. From the developer FromSoftware and publishers Bandai Namco Entertainment, the player may freely roam in its interactive free-form exploration open world. The gameplay elements also include fights, looting, horseback riding, and interacting with non-player characters. Aside from that, it also includes maintaining the character’s status through leveling up, enhancing equipment and weapons, and learning spells. 

Available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. 

DESTINY 2: THE WITCH QUEEN

A major expansion for Destiny 2: New Light, Bungie developed the first-person shooter. Representing the sixth expansion and the fifth year of extended content for Destiny 2. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the expansion was delayed by three months and was only released on February 22, 2022. The expansion revolves around Savathûn. She plays The Witch Queen and Oryx’s sister, the antagonist of the original Destiny’s first major expansion. The gameplay adds new content across the game. This also includes new missions, player versus environment locations, player versus player maps, player gear, weaponry, and a new raid. 

Available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia. 

LOST ARK 

Co-developed by Tripod Studio and Smilegate RPG, Lost Ark became the second most-played game on Steam within twenty-four hours of release. The gameplay primarily focused on PvE and exploration like questing, achievement, collectible hunting, and crafting among others. It also features PvP elements as well. Players can start with customizing their character which they can then level up as they complete the storyline. Reaching the fiftieth level, it unlocks access to tiered endgame dungeons and raids, at which point all further progress becomes tied to the character’s gear score. 

Only available on Windows PC. 

STRANGE HORTICULTURE

From the developer Bad Viking, the Strange Horticulture refers to the occult puzzle game in which you play as the proprietor of a local plant store. Released in January of 2022, a player can finish the fairly short game within a few hours. However, it has eight separate endings that depend on the player’s choices they make throughout the story. Players have to find and identify new plants, pet the cat, speak to a coven, or join a cult. The collection of powerful plants influences the story and unravel Undermere’s dark mysteries. 

Only available on Windows PC.

TOTAL WAR: WARHAMMER 3

The real-time tactics video game was developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega. The third expansion comes in setting in Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy fictional universe. Announced in February 2021, the release came on February 17, 2022. Total War: Warhammer 3 features players moving armies around the map and managing settlements in a turn-based manner. Players engage in diplomacy with and fight against AI-controlled factions. When armies meet, they battle in real-time.

OLLIOLLI WORLD

A 2D-platforming skateboarding video game, the OlliOlli World takes place in Radlandia. The player can interact with the game’s characters, and take on side quests. To get high scores, the player chains together tricks in order to get combos. The player also can ride walls and grind on rails to increase their score. The video games also introduce elements new to the franchise, such as quarter pipes and branching paths. 

Available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. 

DYING LIGHT 2

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is a 2022 action role-playing game developed and published by Techland. It features a zombie apocalyptic-themed open world. Set 22 years after Dying Light, it stars a new protagonist named Aiden Caldwell. Players can also perform actions such as climbing ledges, sliding, leaping off from the edges, and wall running to quickly navigate the city. Players can use long-range weapons such as crossbows, shotguns, and spears. He can also utilize superhuman skills due to the infection. 

Available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. 

NOBODY SAVES THE WORLD

An action role-playing game, Nobody Saves The World is played from a top-down perspective. Players can go solo even though it also has a cooperative multiplayer mode. In the game, the player controls a blank-state character named Nobody who has a wand. The wand allows them to transform into fifteen forms, such as magicians, robots, and dragons. Each form has two basic skills at the beginning of the game, though as players progress, new abilities will unlock. 

Available on Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X through Game Pass.
