A derm-approved five-step skincare routine for oily skin!

Having oily skin can lead to breakouts and screws with makeup application. Aside from that, it makes our faces shiny which we all hate. But, with oily skin, it’s all about achieving balance. If you have oily skin, you must have a proper skincare routine that caters to your concerns. So, we researched and found a perfect one just for you. The right skincare routine helps keep the grease at bay and prevents zits and blackheads.

A derm-approved five-step skincare routine for oily skin!

Cleanse

Washing your face in the morning and at night should remain a must. Cleansing before bed clears the gunk that your skin collects during the day. Cleansing in the morning, on the other hand, helps your skin feels fresh. Aside from that, when you sleep, your skin sheds skin cells and produces oil. This triggers a breakout and makes your skin look shinier. We recommend using a cleanser that caters to oily skin in mind. These include Human Nature’s Balancing Facial Wash, Celeteque’s Acne Solutions Acne Cleansing Gel, and Face Republic’s Calming Acne Salicylic Cleanser among others.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating removes oil, debris, and dead skin cells that clog your pores. However, the thing with exfoliating is making sure that you don’t overdo it. Stick to exfoliating twice a week at most. Over-exfoliating leads to dry, red, or irritated skin. Aside from that, some ingredients make the skin prone to sunburn. We recommend using an exfoliating toner like Luxe Organix’s Miracle Solutions AHA/BHA Toner, SnailWhite’s Glow Potion AHA/BHA Toner, and Pixi’s Glow Tonic Exfoliating Toner among others.

Retinol

Retinol reduces wrinkles and smooths out skin texture due to its cell turnover effect. It helps treat acne and make pores look smaller. Just like every other product, it causes irritation if you use them too much. Nighttime is usually better for retinol products as it makes your skin sensitive to sunlight. So, we recommend using retinol serums that are best for oily skin like Pixi’s Botanical Collagen and Retinol Serum, Celeteque’s Anti-Aging Spot Erasing Serum with Retinol, and The Ordinary’s Retinol 0.2% in Squalane among others.

Moisturize

There are people that think adding more moisture to oily skin becomes counterproductive. However, it’s still super important to an oily skincare routine. So, we recommend gel-based moisturizers to cater to your oily skin concerns. Plus, moisturizers are generally meant for acne-proven skin that remains safe to use on oily skin. You just have to make sure that moisturizers are oil-free, lightweight, and free from harsh chemicals or fragrances. We recommend Hada Labo’s Hydrating Water Gel, Face Republic’s CICA Gel Moisturizer, and Luxe Organix’s Aloe Vera Soothing Gel

Sunscreen

No matter what kind of skin you have, sunscreens should always be included in your skincare routine. So, apply at least an SPF 30 or higher in the morning. But, you have to make sure that there aren’t any pore-clogging culprits on the ingredients. So, we recommend Face Republic’s Purity Sun Essence SPF50+, Biore’s UV Watery Essence Cream SPF50, and SnailWhite’s CC Sunscreen SPF50+ among others.
