GET, GET, AW! SexBomb Girls help announce the lower subscription rates for Netflix

Streaming platform giant Netflix recently announced an update to its subscription rate—and surprise surprise, they lowered it! To the delight of Filipinos, they did this with the help of the legendary girl group the SexBomb Girls.

Members of the SexBomb Girls Rochelle Pangilinan, Jopay Paguia, Che-che Tolentino, Sunshine Garcia, Mia Pangyarihan, and Johlan Veluz performed a fun version of their hit Spaghetti Song. Here, they sang about Netflix’s Basic Plan which has gone from P369 a month to P249 for all devices.

In the said announcement music video, the SexBomb Girls played up popular characters from Netflix original shows Squid Game, Wednesday, Stranger Things, Emily in Paris, Bridgerton, and All Of Us Are Dead.

Meanwhile, the cuts apply to certain price plans, with subscription charges falling by half in some cases.

Another monthly plan that saw a drop was the Standard Plan which is now P399 down from P459. Unfortunately, the Mobile and Premium plans maintain their prices at P149 and P549 monthly, respectively.

Prices have been cut in parts of Asia, Europe, Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East. Reasons for the lowering of the rate mainly stemmed from the rising cost of living seeing households tightening their belts. Also, of course, Netflix faces increased competition from rival services, namely, Amazon, HBO, Hulu, and Disney.

“Members have never had more choices when it comes to entertainment,” a company spokesperson told the BBC.

A Netflix spokesperson said, “We’re always exploring ways to improve our members’ experience. We can confirm that we are updating the pricing of our plans in certain countries.”
