VP/Cover | Back in Tune: A Glimpse of Inigo Pascual’s Rhythm & Rhymes

Some paths always lead back home. No matter where Inigo Pascual goes, he will never forget his own roots. Now that he’s back in tune, you’ll see how he loves the Philippines through his rhythm and rhymes.

Navigating the industry since the tender age of 19, the Filipino pop singer had gone through stages of self-discovery. When he first entered the local show business, he might have been simply branded as Piolo Pascual’s son. But hit after hit, people have come to realize that it was indeed Inigo’s music, character, and wit that helped him build his name

First Hit Nostalgia

Eight years ago, Inigo released a Pinoy classic: “Dahil Sa’yo.” Soon enough, the song topped Billboard Philippines’ Top 20 tracks that year, making him the first Original Pinoy Music (OPM) artist to hit the number one spot. That was Inigo’s prelude to the industry. And time after time, he crafted his own identity—one filled with growth, grit, and passion.

Inigo will never not be shocked on how big the impact of his old hit is. Even though the song was released in 2016, it has that effect on people till now, from kiddos to Zumba titas. He loves how his simple songs can get people together, from little gatherings to big proposals. He also shared how a couple got engaged while he was singing “Dahil Sa’yo” on a tour, and how it became their theme song.

“I think it’s going to be forever on my song list every time I’m doing any performance because it just has that magic that always reminds me of why I’m doing this.”

For him, being a part of people’s most cherished moments is a different level of fulfillment that he won’t find anywhere else.

Unwrapping the Inigo Pascual Trilogy

When Inigo was reminiscing on the making of his trilogy, he shared that he wasn’t going through something hard when he wrote the songs. It took him a while to get over the sadness and finally be able to write about what he had gone through. This certain situation was what humanized the songs he shared with his fans. Through this trilogy, he was able to share a piece of his life with his listeners.

While the fans have been accustomed to his upbeat and blissful love songs, you’ll see and hear a different side of Inigo today.

“It definitely has transformed. I’m even surprised with the type of music I write sometimes.”

For his new song releases, he found his way into writing breakup songs. ”Okay Lang Ako 3” was released on July 2023 while “Kahit Di Mo Ko Nakikita 2” became available in May 2024.

Seeing these numbers at the end of each title, what comes next? The concept of Inigo’s trilogy is similar to breakup phases.

“It’s real, especially in this generation. It happens to everyone. These are real scenarios that I’ve experienced myself, that I’ve heard people go through.”

As “Basta’t Alam Kong Tayo” will be released on Friday, people are getting excited on how the last song will play out. And of course, Inigo will be back in the country soon to sing these new songs for us.

Even though Inigo’s music has definitely transformed, there will always be one constant key in his music: authenticity.

Behind the Rhythm and Rhymes

What lies beneath Inigo Pascual’s rhythm and rhymes? The pop singer shared that he hated the way he wrote his choruses back then. But the choruses that were too simple and boring for him were something that his listeners fell in love with.

“Honestly, after ‘Dahil Sayo,’ after ‘Catching Feelings,’ I’ve come to just embrace the simplicity because it’s the most catchy.”

Apart from his simple yet very relatable lyrics, he shared that he writes about everything around him. He gets inspiration for his songs from movies, couples, and even Uber drivers and the craziest stories they could share. May it be his own experience or from someone that he met, he makes sure to tell the world that they are not alone.

“My goal as a songwriter is to have those songs reach the people that need those songs for healing. For someone that is hurting to know that someone out there understands the way they feel.”

The best way through a Filipino’s heart is through their own language. Inigo shared that he had always loved writing his songs in Tagalog. Even though he’s used to speaking in English, he’d consistently come back to the language that for him is much more meaningful, sweet, and genuine.

“I find writing in Tagalog so much better. It’s more fun and challenging at the same time. It sounds more sincere. And even if it’s sad songs, mas masakit pag Tagalog.”
