Beauty Tip: Ideal Places To Powder Your Face

Did you know that there is such a thing as over-powdering your face? This is especially true for those with oily skin, as some powders contain pore-clogging ingredients like talc. When mixed with facial oils, these ingredients can lead to acne.

Even those with normal skin can experience discomfort and dryness from using too much powder. Additionally, excessive powder can lead to product buildup on your face, which may contribute to pimples.

Signs and Aftermath of Applying Too Much Powder

Glamour Magazine once wrote in one of their beauty articles that one of the makeup mistakes people make is powdering the face too much. Additionally, applying too much of it can blot out your skin’s natural texture and glow.

And going out, the skin texture isn’t really flattering upon seeing it on the streets, under the sun— sorry! Well at least, based on my experience, until I learned that makeup artists recommend powdering only the areas that needed some blotting.

How can you say that you’re already over-powdering?

  • You put powder all over your face.
  • You either use a large puff to apply loose powder or vigorously rub a sponge with pressed powder onto your skin.
  • After powdering, your skin feels tight and dry.
  • Your makeup tends to cake after long wear.

These are the four tell-tale signs that you might be over-powdering your face. And if you can relate to any of these, here’s how you can avoid that.

Beauty Tip: Tips and the Ideal Places To Powder Your Face

The first tip is to choose non-comedogenic powders to avoid clogging your pores. As mentioned earlier, using products that clog pores can trigger acne, especially when mixed with facial oils.

The next tip is to use the right brushes. Use a small, fluffy brush for the eyes and a larger fluffy brush for the face upon setting your makeup. Lightly dab the brush into your favorite face powder, tap off the excess, and then gently apply it to your face.

For the final tip, makeup artists recommend applying powder to your T-Zone, where facial oil tends to accumulate. Focus on the center of the forehead, down the nose, and on the chin.

Additionally, applying excessive powder isn’t necessary to look snatched and flawless—in fact, it can have the opposite effect. This is especially true in hot climates, where our skin tends to produce more sebum, causing makeup to wear off faster. However, by making small tweaks to our makeup routine, we can achieve a lasting and polished look.

I understand that everyone has their own approach to makeup—whether they prefer to use a lot, a little, or simply experiment. Makeup is a powerful form of self-expression, and I fully support that.
