CBCP sets new guidelines for future weddings—sadly, the entourage is missing
We are gradually and ~painfully~ adapting to the ‘new normal’ forced on us by the threat of the lethal pandemic COVID-19. Almost all industries are adjusting and setting new guidelines to be followed in the months ahead. Sad news for those who will be pushing through their weddings this year: the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has released a set of revised guidelines for all religious services in this situation last May 6.
We know that as long as the couple has found true love in each other, the feeling stays the same even with some alterations in the ceremony. Unfortunately, engaged pairs would have to make do without the entourage in their wedding.
“We allow only simple weddings this year, with only the bride and the groom with one set of sponsors and the immediate family,” Bishop Broderick Pabillo, the administrator of Manila, explained. “No best man and bridesmaid for the meantime.”
Nevertheless, this is still upsetting for the families and friends who want to witness and take part in their loved ones’ special day.
The measures remain temporary but the CBCP also reiterated couples to refrain from getting their hopes up as whether these guidelines will be lifted come 2021 is still not guaranteed.
Hey, this too shall pass, okay? Whatever your decisions are, it won’t affect what great thing you have already found in each other. Trials come and go, now this is for sure.
As for baptisms, “only the parents and one set of godparents will be allowed for every baptismal candidate,” as stated in the CBCP News. Attendance in funerals will also accommodate only the immediate family during mass.
With simple weddings turning a tide, sending gifts to the newlyweds can be a challenge. Ideas on what to give can also be a challenge. Silverware seems to be the immediate thing you can think of, but there’s also a chance you’re thinking of linens or even tablecloth linens.
