Take the Center Stage with the Marshall Major V and Minor IV
Your listening experience doesn’t have to be all fuzzy and complicated; sometimes, streamlined and groovy takes the cake. Marshall launches the Major V and Minor IV, ushering in the rebirth of yet another brand icon.
A retelling of on-ear headphones, the Major V maintains its classic look with enhancements on wireless playtime duration and comfort. On the other hand, Minor IV, while small, ensures it sounds larger than life.
In this edition of VP Tech, we’ll help you pick between Marshall Major V and Minor IV. Just a quick disclaimer, you might end up getting them both (but that’s not on us).
MAJOR V: An Icon Forever
A Look That’ll Last
Did somebody call for an icon? You’re probably familiar with the classic Marshall look that people know and love. Luckily, the Major V features that same retro look, giving off that same edgy punk rock vibe that never goes out of style.
It has a leather-textured exterior with faux-leather ear cups that complete the whole aesthetic. Thanks to its light and foldable build, it’s easy to store and carry anywhere. It won’t fit in your pocket, but it sure will fit inside that canvas tote bag you haven’t washed since you bought it.
The M-button on these headphones can now also open the Spotify Tap function, Equalizer, or voice assistant with the help of the Marshall Bluetooth App. Moreover, the brand takes pride in Marshall Major V’s ability to withstand wear and tear, so it’ll surely be capable of keeping up with the most rugged lifestyle.
Sounds like a Classic
But for headphones, the sound should be just as iconic as the look. With custom-tuned dynamic drivers, Marshall has made sure that you can hear your music with as much clarity as possible. With reduced distortion, the Major V delivers excellent sound quality without compromising any element while staying true to its signature Marshall sound.
While you can fine-tune the equalizer even more using the Marshall Bluetooth app, its default settings already provide incredible attention to a song’s detail. We liked that it has impeccable bass without overpowering the vocals in a song. It is especially nice when listening to stripped-down songs where you can pleasantly hear every element and acoustics.
Stand the Test of Time
We’ve been rambling about the Major V’s timeless look all this time, so we need to talk about another feature that would last for a long time, its battery life. You’ll be glad to hear that the Major V has 100+ hours of wireless playback. This beats from the 80+ hour playback from the previous Marshall IV.
Full transparency, we have been using the Major V for countless hours streaming music, and gaming, but it still doesn’t need a battery top-up. We can confidently say that the Major V lives up to its claim of 100+ hours of wireless playback.
While it has an available Type-C charging port, you can also opt for a wireless charging option if that’s what you want. Additionally, there’s even a quick charge option, so you can try to maximize usage and never miss a second streaming of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s ‘What is This Feeling.’
MINOR IV: All Sound, No Fuss
Keeping It Classic and Sustainable
If a fresh pair of headphones might not be for you, Minor IV is an edgy alternative. It rocks a classic leather textured case that’s made of 42% plastic. We must admit that the case may feel a bit plasticky which may not be everybody’s cup of tea. In hindsight, 90% of the plastic used for this case came from post-consumer recycled plastics so just keep that in mind.
The earbuds also have been redesigned to maximize comfort and create a truer fit inside the ear. While it doesn’t have noise cancellation, the overall fit of the earbuds ensures a clear and dynamic sound overall. Moreover, the Minor IV also has an IPX4 rating so the sound trip won’t end, even if it rains.
Small in Size, Big in Sound
With an emphasis on the Marshall signature sound to take center stage, Minor IV has an exquisitely balanced sound. While we wish it had a bit deeper bass, the overall sound doesn’t’ sound distorted or lost. It’s concise and clear, as expected of the Marshall brand.
The earbuds have touch-sensitive controls that let you control your music from a tap or even remove them from your ears. You can also conveniently adjust its sound through the equalizer on the Marshall Bluetooth app.
Extended Rock ‘n Roll
We know you love to put on music to detach yourself from the world, hence why you’d love the 30+ hours of playtime from Minor IV. On their own, the earbuds have 7 hours of wireless playtime.
So, if the earbuds run out of juice, just put them back inside the case, let them charge for a bit, and continue zoning out within your world.
