My Top 3 Silog Meals!

Whenever I crave heavy meals for breakfast and my mom is busy doing house chores, I usually go out to eat. I ride my motorcycle to find food stalls that sell something we all know and love, silog—fried viands with sinangag (garlic rice) and itlog (egg, either sunny side up or hard-boiled egg).

It is definitely my ideal food whenever I am hungry and tired from work. That is why for you guys, I will share my top 3 Silog meals!

One of my favorites would have to be tocilog, which has tocino as its main dish, a sweet, marinated, cured pork that can be easily distinguishable by its vibrant pink color.

The thinly sliced pork is marinated and cured overnight, preferably for 24 hours if time permits. There are two steps to cooking the pork. The first is to cook the pork in water to tenderize the meat. Once the water evaporates, the second step is to drizzle it with oil and fry it until caramelized.

Tapsilog is, of course, another portmanteau of the dish’s three components—the main dish, tapa (beef), sinangag, and itlog.

Aside from its delicious taste, tapsilog is also quite inexpensive and abundantly available. The meal is usually served in many barangays around the Philippines with it being one of the most popular among Pinoys.

The combination of bangus (milk fish), sinangag, and pritong itlog is known as bangsilog. This is another famous silog breakfast combo that many Filipinos adore. It’s usually served with fresh tomatoes or cucumber as a side dish.

You can level up the experience of these foods with coffee! Breakfast is rightfully referred to be “the most essential meal of the day.” Breakfast, as the name implies, breaks overnight fats. It replaces your glucose supply to increase your energy and alertness, as well as delivering other vital nutrients for optimal health.
