TECH/REVIEW | The Art of Wonderful Design with the CMF Phone 2 Pro

Nothing sub-brand, CMF, shows us again that wonderful design can be practical with the launch of the CMF Phone 2 Pro. As the most affordable entry to the Nothing ecosystem, the Phone 2 Pro packs the perfect blend of power and fun—perfect for those seeking a differentiated approach to life and technology.

In the sea of sameness, the CMF Phone 2 Pro stands out with a distinctly unique take on a more accessible smartphone. In this edition of VP TECH/REVIEW, we put the Phone 2 Pro on the chopping block to see how wonderful it truly is.

Build and Design

If you want to talk about standing out, look no further than the CMF Phone 2 Pro’s design. Available in White, Black, Light Green, and Orange. My unit sports the White color variant, which vibes with my own aesthetic. This back design shows a panelled sandstone finish with CMF’s signature stainless steel screws.

The phone, as futuristic and industrial as it looks, feels lightweight at 185g. It’s also the slimmest phone the brand has ever designed at 7.8mm.

This phone actually feels like nothing when you use it; it also easily slips into pockets, which is an added bonus for me. I’d also like to mention how nice the rounded edges are, especially when you’re holding it for a long time.

Finally, we can still add a bunch of accessories to the phone for an added touch of fun. Of course, this is what made the previous Phone 1 stand out as a distinct piece of tech in the smartphone space. And yes, it’s still as fun as before.

Camera

One thing about this brand is that its cameras almost always exceed expectations, and the cameras on the Phone 2 Pro are no exception. The Phone 2 Pro comes with four cameras: a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto lens, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 16MP front camera.

Moreover, the integration of the TrueLens Engine 3.0 allows the Phone 2 Pro to capture vibrant, detailed, and life-like shots with ease. The quality it delivers isn’t beyond its price point, but the way it processes light and shadow will give you your money’s worth.

And we have to talk about this 50MP telephoto lens. The way they did this is by stacking six lenses to digitally zoom up to 20x on a subject. Yes, shots taken using 20x may not be the most life-like photos this phone produces, but the way it preserves a photo’s detail should be commended.

Performance and Storage

While the chip running the Phone 2 Pro rings the same bell as the previous one, this shouldn’t be taken as a deal breaker. I mean, why fix something that doesn’t need fixing? Besides, this newly upgraded MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G, can handle everything this phone is built to offer.

Whether you’re a multitasker or a gamer, the Phone 2 Pro delivers cutting-edge performance with 10 percent quicker processing and 5 percent improvement in graphics, according to the brand.

With RAM booster, you can even get up to 16 GB of RAM, which makes all applications accessible. This makes the phone ideal for your daily multitasking and gaming from Mobile Legends: Bang Bang all the way to Genshin Impact, albeit we recommend playing on its low to default graphic settings when running Genshin.

But wait, the phone even has a Perfromance Mode setting that optimizes the phone by putting performance over power. This mode relieves the phone of the usual hiccups, letting you enjoy a lag-free 120 fps experience when gaming.

Battery

If you want to talk about improvements, then we should talk about the Phone 2 Pro’s battery. Boasting a 5000mAh battery, the Phone 2 Pro lasts nearly one hour longer than the Phone 1.

With moderate use, the Phone 2 Pro could easily last two days without needing to be charged. I have not gone out for two days with this phone, but I sure did play a lot of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang using it. My thoughts: In my case, as I’ve played consecutive rounds for hours, it lasted for around a whole day, but you can stretch that out, especially when you don’t plan on spending your day off bed-rotting all day. (I’m okay, I promise!)

The good thing is, you can easily top up the phone for 20 minutes and enjoy power that can last a whole day with the power of 33W charging.

Display

Boasting CMF’s largest display to date, the Phone 2 Pro sports a 6.77-inch FHD+ flexible AMOLED display that looks better than what you’d expect for its price. The phone can also easily reach a 120Hz refresh rate with a peak brightness of 3000 nits, ideal for the outdoors.

It does feel like a premium viewing experience. I have to say, it’s probably one of my favorite features on the Phone 2 Pro. It delivers high clarity images, and it doesn’t look oversharpened. It also displays colors accurately instead of oversaturating or fully washing out the images.

Overall Thoughts

The CMF Phone 2 Pro feels like that one goofy classmate we had at school, who’s always at the top of the class. It is a unique phone, perfect for those looking for something powerful and fun. It’s really a practical option to experience the Nothing ecosystem without compromising the user experience. Hey, you even get to have the Essential Space and Essential Space Key, which is a welcome enhancement to this phone.

It has decent cameras, a display like no other in its class, and a design that would stand out wherever you go. You can really tell how much attention to detail the brand has put into getting this phone together.
