Before becoming a Fashion Designer, he had been working in a corporate capacity for nine years as an engineer and was living abroad. In those times, the underlying thirst for things sartorial. And he did the right thing by quenching it.
“But while I was doing this job, I have always been active in pageants and in fashion and I realized at some point that I wanted to give it a go and try it out. I went back to the Philippines, enrolled in fashion school and pushed forward. I have never been more happy in my life. Fashion is indeed my passion.”
The great venture
Since then, great opportunities came knocking his door. His fire was something and it exuded in every piece of clothing he produces.
Bessie have worked with the best muses in the country, including Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, tagging her as his favorite muse because he has contributed a lot in her designing journey.
“She was my first muse in the Star Magic ball, her wardrobe as Miss Universe always had Bessie Besana pieces in them and my first ever magazine cover, it was Pia who wore my garment as well! So I would list her as my favorite muse because we had so many firsts together.”
One of the fashion icons he looks up to is Michael Cinco for he has placed the Philippines in the fashion map on his own terms. For him, the dream is to continue on that legacy.
Taking action for your passion
Bessie bared an advice to those who want to start a career in the fashion industry by reminding them to reach for even what you think is impossible and do that with values intact.
“Move mountains when necessary and do not be afraid to not try. Because if you fail when you tried, at least you know that you have the power in you to pursue your dreams. And experiences makes you stronger and it will teach you how to move forward.”
Currently, Bessie is taking advantage of the time given to his by this quarantine to expand her line of work.
“I have always been interested in RTW and this is something I am studying and learning about year now. Hopefully after ECQ, I would be able to realize this dream of mine.”
