Why are people recommending a scalp facial?

Our scalp goes through a lot — like product buildup, dirt, pollution, and dandruff among so many others. That’s why you probably need a scalp facial. Although it’s the most trending treatment nowadays, it basically reduces oil secretion and unclogs follicles. It can help with getting rid of buildup and propagate a healthy hair system. It’s a fact that a healthy scalp means healthy hair. But, the sad fact revolves around us neglecting to give our scalps the attention it truly deserves.

So, what is a scalp facial?

The term scalp facial isn’t even confusing. It’s literally a facial for your scalp. Dermatologists and cosmetologists alike recommend a scalp facial. The process keeps the scalp clean and healthy which plays a vital role in how voluminous and fuller one’s hair feels and looks. A scalp facial lifts away debris and moisturizes the follicles. It incorporates skincare modalities to regulate cellular turnover, reduce inflammation, regulate sebum reduction, and encourage blood flow to ensure the health of the hair follicle.

Where and when should you get one?

Experts emphasize that everyone benefits from a scalp facial. Anyone should get at least three every single year. Although it doesn’t need to go as often as you would for a regular facial, getting one every few months would benefit your scalp and hair.

Salons and dermatologists are the best places to inquire about scalp facials or exfoliation services. Aside from the service, they could also offer various add-ons that make the bill more costly. So, make sure you have extra money to get one from an expert.

With that said, how do you do a scalp facial at home?

Pre-treatment.

Start off with an appropriate scalp mask, oil, or scrub that aims to address your current needs. If your scalp is itchy, then you should go for a pre-treatment scrub with peppermint, tea tree, or citrus-based oils targeted for this concern. If your scalp is oily, on the other hand, go for a product that helps reduce oiliness.

Scalp massage.

After applying the pre-treatment product all over your scalp, take time to really massage it in. We recommend about three to five minutes. Then, move your fingers from your nape all the way to your head and up to your crown. This can soften skin cells, exfoliate, remove debris, and encourage blood flow, as well as hair growth.

Rinse and apply shampoo.

After massaging your scalp, get in the shower and rinse out all the pre-treatment products. Then, go for a detoxifying or a must-recommended hydrating shampoo. It’s always better to make sure your shampoo is sulfate-free, paraben-free, and phthalate-free. Apply the shampoo directly to your scalp and allow the cleansing agent to do the job. Of course, you have to remember to avoid washing your hair more than two to three times per week. That way, you don’t strip the natural moisturizing oils that your body produces.

Apply conditioner.

Not only do you need to apply the conditioner to the ends of your hair, but you also have to put it on your scalp. Deeply conditioning ingredients is wonderful for the scalp. That way, you can lock in more moisture and keep it hydrated. Don’t forget to leave the conditioner on for two to three minutes.

Apply hair serum.

Now, this is one of the things that people forget all the time. Finish off with a hair serum or a hair lotion. This promotes hair health and addresses any specific scalp concerns that you might have. This treatment will definitely leave you with a stronger, shinier, and healthier scalp.

So, what are you waiting for? Take care of your scalp. You should either get a scalp facial from an expert or do one for yourself!
