The Haunting of Hill House: A Must-Watch for Horror Enthusiasts
If you love the horror genre and are looking for a series to binge-watch, I have a recommendation for you. “The Haunting of Hill House” is a horror tv series available on Netflix. It has ten episodes, each of them an hour long. This is a good series for horror fans who are not fond of jump scares. That is right, the show does not rely on the poor overused technique of jump scares, but rather on authentic mind-rattling, heart-racing terror from the plot and cinematography.
The Haunting
The story revolves around the Crain family who recently moved into a mansion called the Hill House. There were seven of them in total, the parents and the five children. Initially, it was their plan to renovate the house and sell it at a much higher price than when they bought it. However, paranormal activities started happening and soon enough they realized that the House is alive.
The narration of the series is quite interesting because, in the present, the children are already adults. Their mother is gone, and their father is estranged. Therefore, the execution goes from their present selves to their past selves when they were still living in Hill House. Their family is considered not a tight-knit one, especially as grown-ups. They made their own separate ways and were barely in contact. It was mostly because of the shared trauma that they endured in the Hill House. Being with their family was like reliving all those horrors. However, a tragedy occurred that forced them to be with one another again, including their father.
Family drama within the Horror genre
Since the story involves a family, it is only natural that family drama arises very often. But the familial element is an integral part of the development of the story. It does not make the plot boring or unoriginal, it makes it even more relatable and real.
The Haunting of Hill House contains horror, drama, and supernatural elements that are all woven together into one masterpiece. It is a must-watch for horror fans and non-fans alike. I personally managed to watch it by myself, and I am not a huge fan of scary series! All I have to say is, watch it, the plot twist is worth the scare.
