My 5 Favorite Lines from Le Sserafim’s ‘Antifragile’ Era
Here are five lines from the fearless rookie group Le Sserafim’s new album, Antifragile, that made me love them even more.
Continuing to be fearless, the HYBE and Source Music girl group return with their newly released album Antifragile, comprised of five bopping songs. Sakura, Chaewon, Yunjin, Kazuha, and Eunchae definitely slayed their comeback with a feminine yet rock and roll pop tunes and empowering lyrics. Listening to it feels like I’m giving a huge middle finger to all the haters out there.
Here are my top five favorite lines from Le Sserafim’s Antifragile era.
The Hydra
I am not afraid of storms
For I am learning how to sail my ship
나는 점점 더 더 더 강해져 (I am getting stronger and strong and stronger)
The album with The Hydra for a reason. This 1-minute-and-44-second song is the intro to the whole concept of their comeback. This line, in particular, establishes their persistence to continue their journey knowing the odds that their strength will be tested.
Perhaps the line is also connected with their difficulty adjusting to the removal of their former member Kim Garam. This is their way of telling their fans that there will be issues in the future but Le Sserafim will always come back stronger than ever. As a rookie group, they are still learning and just starting to set sail in the industry.
ANTIFRAGILE
더 높이 가줄게 (I’ll climb higher)
내가 바랐던 세계 젤 위에 (Top of the world I itched for)
떨어져도 돼 I’m (No biggie if I were to fall, I’m)
Antifragile antifragile
Chaotic – my initial thought on their main track Antifragile. Not because the music video showed a lot of explosions and fire, but because I cannot piece the lyrics together. It was not until I made an effort in looking for the English translation that I began to understand the meaning of “antifragile.”
This line is all about taking risks and braving the inevitable. Le Sserafim members are truly passionate about their work and performances. One could attest to that by watching their documentary, The World Is My Oyster. With this song, they are embodying that fearlessness and showing the world that nothing could break them.
Impurities
아름다워 난 (I’m beautiful) with my scratches
Just because it’s what I am
시련 속에서 커진 (Power that grew in trials)
겁내지 않아 덮친 shadow (I’m not afraid, the shadow that hit me)
The song, Impurities, talks about self-love and self-acceptance. Everyone goes through hell at some point in their lives and it can also leave a mark. However, these scars or scratches are still beautiful. I actually personally find these signify how far an individual has come in life. Therefore, our impurities are a sign of bravery that also makes us unique from others.
No Celestial
Just wanna live a real life
솔직한 내 목소리를 들어줘 (Listen to my honest voice)
Ain’t no fear, 난 이 순간 (At this moment), I’m now
떨어져 (Falling) down to earth
No Celestial is actually my favorite among all of their songs. It reminds me of Demi Lovato’s Camp Rock era, which makes me feel quite nostalgic listening to this one. I admire that they are also expanding their music to a much more energetic, loud, and punk vibe.
They are loudly putting the message across that they are more than what people expect them to be. Hence this line, they are allowed to show who they are no matter what others say and no one can stop them from doing so. K-Pop idols or celebrities, Le Sserafim are also women who desire to be heard beyond the image they have shown their fans.
Good Parts (When the quality is bad but I am)
실수해도 좋아 (It’s okay to make mistakes) find the good parts
Good Parts is another favorite of mine. Although it is a bit similar to Impurities’ concept, what made it more special is its chill mellow music. It is the best song to end the album with its optimistic atmosphere.
The line brings out the brighter side of things. While making mistakes is scary and upsetting, it is also normal and important. One cannot find the good parts without the bad ones.
If you think about it, their songs are arranged as stages of overcoming challenges and empowering courage.
Antifragile album starts with the initial persistence in achieving our dreams and defeating the odds. It moves on to the understanding that we are all prone to go through a dark place and live through the impurities in our lives. Thus, we have to learn to shrug all these challenges off and continue to show them a stronger and bolder you. The album then ends by providing hope that everything will be okay for there will always be good parts. These are truly a masterpiece and I cannot wait to see them in their next comeback.
