Beauty Tip: How To Have Glowing Skin

Today, we delve into skincare in our ongoing ‘Beauty Tip’ series. With makeup artists predicting glowing skin as a key beauty trend for 2024, there’s no better time to explore some tips for achieving a healthy and glowing complexion.

Beauty Tip: Learn How to Care for Your Skin for a Glowing Look

We’re all aware that the internet is brimming with skincare advice for all. And I’ve personally tailored my skincare routine by drawing inspiration from these tips.

To provide further context, I also studied beauty and nail care during my high school T.L.E. class, where we learned how to perform foot and hand spa treatments. Through observation, I noticed that both procedures involve similar steps in pampering the skin.

Additionally, as a young adult with normal skin, I’m aware that our natural collagen production decreases as we age. This leads to the development of fine lines on the skin. Meanwhile, the sun’s rays also play a significant role in premature aging.

So, I’ll share some skincare tips that I’ve found helpful, which can benefit you even if you’re younger than me.

1. Use sunscreen and sunblock

Of course, one of the most affordable anti-aging products is sunscreen. It’s suitable even for minors, so it’s beneficial to begin taking care of your skin early to preserve its health. Remember to reapply it every six hours to optimize the effectiveness of your chosen sunscreen.

Furthermore, applying sunblock aids in safeguarding your skin from harmful UV rays. Additionally, you can also use your preferred lotion with an SPF of at least 30 for added protection. Just like in sunscreens, it’s also best to reapply your SPF while you’re away.

2. Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin is among the top methods for getting rid of dead skin cells from your body, promoting a smoother and brighter complexion. It assists in the efficient removal of the top layer of skin, revealing fresher and healthier skin underneath.

In doing this, you can use bath salts, loofas, and many other exfoliating products recommended by dermatologists.

Now, why do we need to exfoliate our skin? Doing this can:

  • reveal brighter skin since it sheds the top-most skin layer by;
  • helping the skin detoxify. Doing this also;
  • improve blood circulation
  • unclog skin pores
  • stimulate collagen production, and;
  • reduce wrinkles and fine lines (thanks to the increased collagen production)

However, it’s not advisable to do this every single day. An article from Kim Gallo Esthetics advises people with normal skin to do this two to three times per week.

Meanwhile, exfoliating can be quite harsh on the skin if done too frequently, so it’s best to exfoliate once a week for people with dry skin. And for those with oily skin, estheticians also advise people to exfoliate their skin three to four times a week, depending on how much the skin can handle.

3. Moisturize and Hydrate

Following exfoliation, it’s recommended to apply your preferred lotion onto your skin to further lock the moisture. I understand that we live in a humid climate, in that case, you can opt for water-based lotions for a lightweight feel.

Individuals with oily and combination skin should opt for lightweight, watery skincare products, as these can help them achieve a shine-free finish. Furthermore, a lotion with SPF 30 and above is also advisable for protecting while moisturizing the skin.

4. Drink water and hydrate

In addition to moisturizing your skin externally, one of the most effective methods to maintain moisture is to hydrate your body by drinking water.

Furthermore, it’s widely recognized that individuals should aim to drink at least eight glasses of water daily. This recommendation stems from the understanding that our bodies are composed of approximately 60% water. Therefore, staying adequately hydrated not only benefits the skin but also promotes overall body cleansing.

What I listed were the things that are mostly used despite the skin type which worked for me. To further know and tailor your skincare routine will always be based on what your skin needs. So, for expert advice, it’s best to seek for your trusted dermatologist to personalize your skincare routine, and to get to your goal of healthy, glowing skin.
