Shin Min-Ah relates a lot with her ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ Character
A new K-Drama is giving Netflix viewers a heavy dose of kilig and good vibes. We’re talking about the ongoing romantic series Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha! If you are a big fan of comedy and light drama, you definitely must add this to your watch list.
The return of Shin Min-Ah
Big names like Kim Seon-ho (from Start-Up) and Lee Sang-Yi star in this series set in a fictional seaside village called Gongjin. This drama marks the comeback of the veteran Hallyu star Shin Min-Ah after her almost 2-year hiatus.
In Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Shin Min-Ah plays the character of Yoon Hye-jin, a dentist who leaves behind her well-paying job in the city. Hye-jin moves to Gongjin to pursue a more meaningful life by opening a clinic of her own.
In the past, Min-Ah has starred in a number of famous drama series such as My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Oh My Venus, and Tomorrow, With You.
Fans and supporters of Min-Ah may remember this charming actress in her role in Chief of Staff (2019). Her character there was a sophisticated and ambitious politician. After that, the actress got busy taking care of her boyfriend, Kim Woo-bin.
Why does she love her character in this Netflix series?
In a quick interview, Shi Min-Ah admits she shares quite a few traits with her character.
“I would say I’m 90% similar to Hye-jin. I may not be as straightforward as her, but I would like to see myself as soft-hearted and kind like her.”
When Shin Min-ah’s character in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha moves to the town of Gongjin, she is quickly misunderstood by the locals. They are quick to believe that Yoon Hye-jin is coldhearted and superficial. However, it’s Hye-jin’s efforts to protect a patient that forced her to leave Seoul and seek a less expensive location for a dental clinic.
Min-Ah also expressed admiration towards Yoon Hye-jin. She explains,
“Yoon Hye-jin is a perfectionist who is extremely frank and has clear values. She may come across as cold and stuck-up at first, but in reality, she is clumsy and soft-hearted. I find that really adorable about her and that’s what attracted me to the role.”
Also, the versatile actress narrated how she prepared to play this role realistically. Min-Ah visited dental clinics to observe dentists and patients. She keenly observed how dentists interacted with their patients, including facial expressions, actions, and others.
She added,
“I also got a lot of advice from the dentists that I know. Apart from that, I spent a lot of time trying to really understand Hye-jin, since her emotional development plays a key role in the plot.”
Based on few episodes I’ve already watched, it seems that Shin Min Ah’s efforts really paid off. I can hardly wait for the next episodes of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha!
