Paulo Avelino took to Twitter last Sunday, October 10 to defend his friend, Jake Cuenca, regarding news of his arrest.

It could be recalled how the police nabbed Cuenca for allegedly bumping a police vehicle in Mandaluyong last Saturday, October 9.

Avelino, who reportedly went to the actor in the precinct after his arrest, said his piece on social media.

He wrote,

“I wouldn’t stop for anyone shooting my vehicle wearing civilian clothes. Pass through a checkpoint? Hinarang ba? If someone was shooting me it’s either I shoot back or run for my life. Wrong place wrong time.”

The Marry Me, Marry You star referred to the policemen who shot Cuenca’s tires during the incident.

This, in turn, injured a passing delivery rider during the chase.

In another tweet, Avelino slammed the many versions of news regarding Cuenca’s arrest.

He told netizens to get their facts straight about the incident before posting about it.

“Mauna sa balita bida ngayon. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND KNOW THE TRUTH BEFORE YOU POST.”

In another tweet, Avelino answered a question from a netizen, who asked if Cuenca had a drink before driving.

He said despite Cuenca having a drink, he did not injure anyone with the incident.

Moreover, Avelino said Cuenca was merely driving to get to his house after the former had recovered from COVID-19.

“Drunk? No. Nakainom? Maybe. Nakasagasa ba? Nakasakit ng tao? Hindi. Walang malay na nagmamaneho papunta dito sa punyeta kong bahay dahil kaka-recover ko lang sa [COVID-19].”

Lastly, he tweeted about how he would do the same thing for Cuenca if he tested positive for the virus.

“Same thing I would do for someone I love. If you get Covid then F it. I wouldn’t care If I get it too. I’m taking care of you whether I get it or not. If I die due to covid, I’ll be happy I did it for someone I love.”

The Eastern Police District (EPD) released its statement on the incident on Dobol B TV last Sunday.

According to them, Cuenca’s SUV did not stop after bumping the police vehicle, causing their men to go after him.

The SUV is now in the custody of the Mandaluyong Police, who will file a complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property against Cuenca.

On the other hand, Cuenca’s father went to the Mandaluyong Police Station, saying his son had no intentions for the incident to be a chase.

Moreover, he said Cuenca had feared the incident, resulting in him driving away in panic.

As of writing, Cuenca himself has yet to address the issue.
