Billie Eilish sends a powerful message to body shamers

Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Billie Eilish slammed body shaming in a powerful short film titled, “Not My Responsibility.” The 18 year-old “Ocean Eyes” singer uploaded the said video on her YouTube channel yesterday, May 27.

In the film, Billie is seen alone in a dark room clad in a black hoodie. She slowly removes her clothes while sinks into the water.

“Some people hate what I wear, some people praise it, some people use it to shame others, some people use it to shame me,” the singer said via voice over.

Of course, as a public figure, people watch everything she does and they have opinions on her opinions, her music, her clothes, and her body.

“If I wear what is comfortable I am not a woman, if I shed layers I’m a slut. Though you’ve never seen my body you still judge it and judge me for it,” she said.

At the latter part of the film, she emphasized that bashers’ opinion will never her responsibility. “Is my value based only on your perception? Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?”

In fact, the video is reportedly shown during a concert interlude during her “Where Do We Go” world tour in Miami.

As of this writing, the video on YouTube alone garnered over 7.7 million views and it is also currently Top 31 on the trending list
