What Does Being Sexy And Being Sexually Empowered Actually Mean?

Individuals utilize the word sexy for various purposes. It nearly became polarizing and still causes me to flinch when I say it. Sexy also used to be something terrible. If they labeled you as sexy, you can’t be wise, intelligent, achieved, and kind. Then, your one objective would be to allure others and be ogled on: 𝒘̲̅𝒉̲̅𝒊̲̅𝒄̲̅𝒉̲̅ 𝒇̲̅𝒆̲̅𝒆̲̅𝒍̲̅𝒔̲̅ 𝒑̲̅𝒓̲̅𝒆̲̅𝒕̲̅𝒕̲̅𝒚̲̅ 𝒂̲̅𝒏̲̅𝒏̲̅𝒐̲̅𝒚̲̅𝒊̲̅𝒏̲̅𝒈̲̅ 𝒃̲̅𝒕̲̅𝒘̲̅. The word also came with a “too” in front of it. For instance, a “too sexy” skirt and a “too sexy” woman. No wonder numerous women have a muddled relationship with the word “sexy” and our sexualities. Without oppressing cultural standards, sexy and being sexually empowered also mean something very different.

What Does Being Sexy And Being Sexually Empowered Actually Mean?

Focusing on pleasure throughout your life

What feels pleasurable to you doesn’t indicate that it would recommend pleasurable for any other individual. Besides that, delight doesn’t rotate around a climax or what occurs in the room. Pleasure is whatever causes you to feel turned on and more alive. It can even be having five minutes to yourself after a long day at work. Is that sexual? No. Nonetheless, it aggregates joy that assists you with feeling invigorated. Tap into your sexual energy, center around pleasure for the duration of your life.

Talking about sex comfortably

Living in the Philippines, disgrace, guilt, and degradation exist when people talk about sex. Discussing sex ought to be comfortable. That way, individuals could educate themselves about sex and sexually transmitted diseases. Besides that, talking about sex and being open to communicating remain vital for a woman’s pleasure. The more we normalize women as sexual beings, it subliminally urges different women to explore and take ownership for what pleasure feels like to them, too.

Taking care of your body

Sex, pleasure, and intimacy focus energy around the body. Anything that brings love, attention, and energy into the body can increase a woman’s sexual empowerment. We become exceptionally separated from our bodies, and sensations can become dulled through everyday life and distressing circumstances. It feels very important to exercise, as well as be in touch with how our bodies feel at the very moment. When we become in touch with our bodies, we begin treating them better and start feeling better in them. That sensuality translates to sexuality.

Why is this topic important for the current and future generation?

It’s already 2021. A new generation rules this year — the most diverse and accepting generation among others. We see them express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas in writing, art, music, and even dance. We see them accept everyone’s sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression – understanding that sometimes, a person can only see love. Also, we see them reject outdated patriarchal thinking. They know that women can wear whatever they want. Dance however they want. And, do whatever they want with their bodies. This generation knows that sexually empowered women are not supposed to be shamed.

They know that these kinds of women are not supposed to be humiliated. So, just in case you didn’t know, sexual empowerment is understood as a multidimensional process. It promotes us, women, to think that our bodies look amazing — something that I have yet to learn. Sexual empowerment makes us believe that our bodies are ours to control. It validates our sexual desires and as women, we are right to express our sexuality and that it’s okay to have expectations of sexual pleasure.
