Netflix hits 200M paying subscribers last year!

Netflix

When the lockdown began last year because of the pandemic, we can no longer enjoy watching in movie houses. Thankfully, Netflix became the convenient choice for movie marathons and Kdrama series binging. The streaming giant is definitely getting bigger and it seems nothing is gonna stop that!

Continuing its goal to bring entertaining shows

For its annual report, Netflix said that it reached a total of 204 million paying subscribers all over the world. This digit is near twice the current population here in our country which is 110 million. This simply means that 2.6 percent of the global population of 7.7 billion is Netflix subscribers.

Even though COVID-19 affected many industries, the company still performed well with additional 37 million new subscribers during the entire 2020. 9.3 million new subscribers came from the Asia Pacific region.

A big majority of the popular shows on the said platform is Netflix’s original content. For example, 68 million users chose to watch The Holidate while 62 million opted to stream The Queen’s Gambit. Another hit show is the animated movie Over the Moon with its 43 million views. The Midnight Sky starring Geoge Clooney garnered views from 72 million households since it was released.

Aside from that, Netflix claimed that it has 9 out of 10 most searched TV shows on Google worldwide. The list consists of Tiger King, Money Heist, Cobra Kai, The Umbrella Academy, Emily in Paris, Ozark, The Queen’s Gambit, Outer Banks, and Locke & Key.

A week before, Netflix released a teaser showing what’s coming to its members’ screens for the rest of 2021. There are upcoming shows like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before 3,  Yes Day,  Sky Rojo, the continuation of La Casa De Papel (Money Heist), and Space Sweepers.

Netflix also committed to showing at least one new original film every week in 2021. The company expressed this as a conclusion to their successful year: “Our strategy is simple: if we can continue to improve Netflix every day to better delight our members, we can be their first choice for streaming entertainment. This past year is a testament to this approach.”
