Surrounding the site is the vast foliage and forestry that locals of the area protected. Some of these locals belong to the Dumagat tribe – the indigenous people who reside in the Sierra Madre. To get to the location, from SM Tungko, tourists must ride a jeep headed for Licao Licao. From there, Kaytitinga Falls can be reached via an hour of trekking. However, as some travelers suggest, you might want to make the falls an exit point from your trek from Mt. Balagbag. For a 30 pesos entrance fee (parking fee included), visitors can enjoy the rich scenery and cold waters of the falls.
2. Mt. Balagbag Trekking and Camping site
Looking for a beginner-friendly and budget-friendly Mountain trip near Manila? Then Mt. Balagbag is the right place for you to go. This trekking site sits at the boundaries of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, and Rodriguez, Rizal. And depending on your time of visit, you may see the Sierra Madre mountains or the city lights at the Mountain’s peak.
The Mountain is available for day tours and overnight camping and offers affordable rates for its visitors. As for its day tours, one person would cost 50 pesos, while staying overnight cost 100 pesos per person. Additionally, trekkers are advised to bring one valid ID with an address to present at the tourist assistance desk to get their tourist passes. Similar to Kaytitinga Falls, the route to Mt. Balagbag follow the same directions.
3. Padre Pio Mountain of Healing (CSJDM, Bulacan)
For those who are in search of a place of solemn reflection and peace, visit Padre Pio Mountain of Healing. Standing on top of a mountain stands a 50-foot tall statue of Padre Pio – known for healing the sick and infertile. The place also has a reliquary containing local paintings of the saint and a third-class relic wiped to his heart. Additionally, at the foot of the statue, people leave rosaries to have their prayers answered.
Padre Pio Mountain of Healing is located in Barangay Paradise 3, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. To reach the place from SM Tungko, ride a jeep headed to Licao Licao. Ask the driver to drop you off at the tricycle terminal to Padre Pio. The tricycle will then drop you off at the foot of the mountain.
4. Pawssion Project Shelter (CSJDM, Bulacan)
If volunteer work is your Pawssion, then the Pawssion Project shelter is a must-visit for you. Pawssion Project is a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs on death row in city pounds. Malou Perez founded the project in October 2018 and has established two shelters, one of which is in CSJDM, Bulacan. Since then, according to their official website, the Pawssion Project had rescued more than 2000 animals and rehomed over 600 dogs.
To visit the place, you may book an appointment at their official site. Their shelters are open from 10 AM to 5 PM all week and you could bring your own pets as well. Just make sure to present their up-to-date vaccination cards as proof. The shelter is specifically located at 1429 Paradise 1, Purok 7, Tungkong Mangga, City of San Jose Del Monte. You may also bring pet supplies for donations.
