April May Short represents the Philippines in World Top Model 2019.
In an exclusive interview, Short shares her preparations and the pressure she feels in representing the Philippines.
“There’s always pressure on wearing the Philippine sash but at the end of the day, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. I need to be in my core and enjoy every moment of it.”
April May Short on modeling industry’s lack of representation.
As a member of the modeling industry, April shares her own opinion in certain matters. This includes what she thinks on the modeling industry having a negative connotation due to the lack of representation of average body standards.
“Regarding the lack of representation of average body standards, I think [every woman] have a place in the industry. There [are already] plus-sized models [for] editorials, catalogues and many more. They will always have a place and it’s now their time to shine.”
On evils of social media.
With her huge reach on it, she knows the advantages and disadvantages of social media. April makes it a point to encourage people to put their faith in the people who support them.
“There has always been body shaming and negative comments when you’re not fit and when other people don’t find you beautiful. Don’t find your validation on social media. Put your faith to… the people who supports you along the way. That’s what matters the most.”
On self-love.
With World Top Model 2019, Short aims to advocate for self-love by promoting a healthy and positive lifestyle. She hopes to reflect the said lifestyle to the people she interacts with.
“I would always start with myself and try my hardest to reflect it to the people around me. Aside from having shaped and toned body, it’s about the discipline, taking care of ourselves and having a healthy and positive lifestyle. Plus, it’s the self-love that makes us look and feel better.”
On trading places.
If she could trade places with any person in history, living or deceased, it would be the president of the Philippines. Since her elementary days until she was in college , she started going into student government.
“I always knew my decisions were good. That’s why I want to try to be the president. I want to know how one deals with the problems of the country and how they decide to make right, just and accountable decisions.”
