Studio Ghibli ‘Whisper of the Heart’ will have a live-action sequel
It has been 25 years ago since Studio Ghibli released theatrical anime Whisper of the Heart aka Mimi o Sumaseba. The story left its viewers a cliff hanger but hold up. We are getting a sequel!
In the ending of the movie, Shizuku Tsukishima (female lead) and Seiji Amasawa (male lead) fell in love with each other and watched the sunset together. Seiji proposed and Shizuku accepted it. Just that! Of course, everyone felt hanging and wondering what will happen to them.
At that time, the characters were just 14-year old, which is impossible for them to really end up together. So, a sequel is really a must! Sony Picture Entertainment announced a continuation of the story of these characters.

Now in the new film starring Nana Seino as Shizuku and Tori Matsukaza as Seiji, it will be the 10-year after of the original story.
Shizuku has given up her dream as a novelist but instead works as a children’s book editor at a publishing company. On the other hand, Seiji is still following his dreams abroad. The lead characters eventually grow distance with each other.
Whisper of the Heart was originally written by Ao Hiragi back then 1989. While Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki created the screenplay back on 1995.
The live-action movie will start its production next month. Meanwhile, the release on Japan will be on September 18. International release is still unannounced.
