The movie is known for its 2011 JRPG Wrath of the White. It is a product of the collaboration of Japanese game developer Level-5, the master composer Joe Hisaishi and of course world famous animation Studio Ghibli.

In 2011, the game received a lot of amazing reviews. A lot of critics praised the game for its heartfelt story told through Studio Ghibli’s animated cutscenes. A story about a child brought to another world in search of saving his dearly departed mother. This is quiet unusual for a context of JRPG’s whereas it has the genre somewhat maligned by tropes and clichés.

Meanwhile in 2018, Level-5 released a sequel, Revenant Kingdom, a different game but equally ambitious to its predecessor. However, it gained a lot of reviews where critics expressed their disappointment as Studio Ghibli didn’t return to collaborate. Unexpectedly, just after a year, a new Ni no Kuni project happened in the form of film.

Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, Ponyo and Whisper of the Heart – these are just some of the notable works of Studio Ghibli.

Ni no Kuni will be available on the streaming platform on January 16, 2020.
