It all started as a fangirl then I became a writer

If there are words that describe being a fangirl and a writer, it’s passion and creativity. I have this one writer friend who is also an avid fangirl. Her name is Elizabeth Galit, also known by her nickname “Beth”. Her story of becoming a writer from being a fangirl amazes me until today.

Becoming a writer

I have been friends with Beth for some time now, and we shared many stories, from fiction scenes to real-life happenings. In her early writing days, Beth started scribbling stories at the back of her math notebook. But there’s this horror story she wrote on a yellow pad paper that became famous in her classroom. Until the school paper adviser that is also her classroom teacher confiscated her paper, this confiscation also leads her to an invitation to become a feature writer for their school paper. Until she also decided to put her written stories on Wattpad. It was also when Wattpad was the top hit for every teenager.

Being a fan

Beth is a big fan of EXO and Backstreet Boys, and please don’t ask me her age because even I can’t believe it. Back in her fangirling era, she has a collection of magazines. She mentioned that this particular magazine has a section where you can read a short story about your favorite stars. You’ll also see that there were blank spaces where you can fill out a scene you imagine doing in that particular scenario written. It amazes me how creative and imaginative that magazine is, leading Beth to become a writer.

Fangirling and writing are now part of Beth’s love and life. We became close because we are both fans of K-pop groups and K-dramas. We’ve kept updating K-drama releases and sending memes and short videos about our biases. Take note that she even has a collection of official merch of every K-pop group she stan. Her love, passion, and creativity on to something, from fangirling, writing, and working, really amaze me.

Her works

I am excited to tell you about Beth’s works because they fill my imagination until today. And also, as a hopeless romantic girl, her books became part of my other fiction world.

On her website, Beth reminisces that she had yet to learn what to do to her written works on her old files. She mentioned, all I know is that, I wanted to write, and that I did. Plus, my frustrations toward the customers I handled during my long nights as a customer care specialist was just too much to behold I would sometimes just write them down. I put everything into words. I wrote when my heart bled, when my brain felt like fried, and my soul totally consumed. In the end, I was able to come up with these stories.

Beth’s timeline of her art took a long time to mold but it finished beautifully with serenity. Her kind words, humble beginning, and works inspire me to keep pursuing whatever my heart leads me to.
