Someone’s got her eyes on us in the new Gossip Girl teaser trailer
Attention, Upper East Siders. HBO Max has spilled the tea. We’ve finally gotten a Gossip Girl teaser 40 days before the show’s premiere. Are you excited too?
You’ve gotten so comfortable
Thinking you’re in control
Of your image, your actions — the narrative.
But you forgot one thing,
I can see you.
And before I’m through,
I’ll make sure you see you too.
XOXO
Nothing much can be said about the one-minute clip aside from rich kids giving side-eyes and glaring at one another. Although, we’re pretty sure it won’t be long until an actual trailer is released.
By the looks of the Gossip Girl teaser, we’d most likely be seeing a more ominous version of the Gossip Girl persona this time around. Her previous iteration had a more somber, albeit cunning and scandalous, approach to her words. This could be due to her ghost writer — her true identity in the first TV show. Since this spin-off show is set 8 years after the original GG website went dark, it’s safe to say that a new person will takeover the Gossip Girl mantle.
Kristen Bell, the voice of the original Gossip Girl, will fortunately reprise her role. A good move because she’ll bring a certain familiarity to a show full of characters that weren’t in the original series nor were they taken from the novels.
However, from the Gossip Girl teaser itself, this version of GG sounds like she has a different objective.
The first Gossip Girl was originally a twisted homage to Serena van der Woodsen and her Upper East Side world.
GG then was a mere spectator. She was an online and omniscient being spotlighting the lives of New York’s elite. Now, though, seems like there’s a more deeper, vengeful motive.
If you really think about it, a new Gossip Girl figure at a time of social media is scary.
Everyone, to some extent, has an online presence. In the age of smart phones, geo-tracking, and hashtags, everyone and anyone can be everywhere in an instant.
Anyone can literally be GG.
A lot has happened since the likes of Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Nate Archibald, Chuck Bass, Dan Humphrey, Georgina Sparks, and Carter Baizen ruled the Met steps. The landscape of the Upper East Side has literally widened now with the rise of several social media. GG will be so pleased to know that a new bunch of old money heirs and heiresses have come under her radar.
We’ll see how things play out. In the meantime, we can only hope to see how things pan out.
