Gianna Margarita Llanes aims to conquer Miss Glamour International 2021

A few days before the conclusion of Miss Glamour International 2021 this November 7, 2021, in Oaxaca, Mexico, the Philippines’ pride in Gianna Margarita Llanes made a remarkable departure wearing a modern Filipiniana.

The Miss Earth Philippines Water – 2021 is ready to compete and will surely make us proud.

Her unique individuality

A true queen in her Filipino blood despite growing up in Canada, Gianna believes becoming the best in her generation drives her more to discover her purpose.

“I’ve always prided myself as someone who strays away from the norm. As a beauty queen and journalist, I aimed to always generate unconventional conversations about taboo topics that need to be changed. In addition, I started my initiative Brightened Blue (previously called Bughaw) to distribute relief goods, conduct activities and seminars, and ultimately retell the stories of the victims of loss from recent disasters, like environmental disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. This is to show that anyone, no matter your background, can make a difference and lend a helping hand to their community.”

The road to pageantry

She may have been doing something different years back before joining the world of pageantry, but this time, she discovered the road where she could voice out her advocacies.

“I’m a complete tomboy with a love for sports and adventure, so poise and class were never in my dictionary. However, I’ve always been a fan of watching beauty pageants. After working on a camera for a couple of years, a lot of people encouraged me to join pageantry. The industry is evolving to focus less on physical beauty and more on the ability of a woman to speak about her advocacies. My first national pageant was grueling and more difficult than I thought, but here I am not giving up, and onto my fifth competition!”

Making a difference in the community and inspiring people

Gianna has been very brave with her advocacy, helping the community to change the narrative and make our world a better place to live in.

Her efforts are a representation of her pure heart.

“I’ve always prided myself as someone who strays away from the norm. As a beauty queen and journalist, I aim to always generate unconventional conversations about taboo topics needed to be changed. I started my initiative Brightened Blue (previously called Bughaw) to distribute relief goods. In addition, I conduct activities and seminars, and ultimately retell the stories of the victims of loss from recent disasters, like environmental disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. This is to show that anyone, no matter your background, you can make a difference.”

What the world needs to hear

Perfect timing will always take its place. Gianna had some doubts about whether to pursue pageantry or not. Her doubts faded after getting positive feedback from her supporters.

“During my Miss Philippines Earth 2020 bid, there were numerous points when I wanted to back out of the competition because I felt as if I wasn’t being noticed. A lot of my mentors were telling me to be patient and wait until my voice was heard.

After the intelligence round, I started to receive inspirational messages from supporters who appreciated my advocacies and believed in my ability to communicate. Eventually, I was crowned Miss Philippines Earth – Water 2020 and am forever grateful that I did not give up!”

Seeing yourself down the road a few years from now

She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Psychology at the Harvard Extension School.

She hopes to someday fulfill her dream of being a clinical psychologist and to have a family.

“I hope to someday become a clinical psychologist, providing and normalizing therapy especially for marginalized communities. Before, I never saw myself raising a family either, but now, I would love to have kids of my own someday and live by the beach!”

When asked what message she would give to girls who dream to represent or take the same direction, she said,

“In everything you do, focus on getting to know yourself – from yourself to your weaknesses, find a way to to embrace every part of them!”

This statement will surely make an impact on the current and next generation who plans to take the same direction.

Lastly, she added,

“The journey is never easy and never-ending. But once you believe in your authenticity, you’ll be able to inspire those around you to do the same. No matter what happens, you’ll be rooted in your values and that’ll lead you to your passions!”

We are very excited to see your performance in Miss Glamour International 2021. We wish you the best of luck!
