Forgotten LoL Champions

League of Legends (LoL) has been tested through time. The Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game genre is slowly declining as many new games are gaining recognition. LoL developer Riot Games on the other hand vigorously continues to improve the game. They listen to their players and make necessary changes. There are still major concerns that need to be addressed like its toxic player base but some parts of it can’t be controlled.

LoL is far from a perfect game. There’s always something new in every patch, but there are other things that have somehow been forgotten. There are 160 Champions in LoL with a new one coming in July. With that many characters, there are things left unchecked.

Here are some forgotten champions that Riot needs to fix.

Maokai

The Twisted Trent is one of those champions that received a rework. Riot was able to fix its ultimate skill while keeping its design and mechanics. Its rework in 2017 was widely received by its players but as the game evolves and new champions were released, new problems came in.

LoL is now played at a faster pace. Most new champions have more mobility and everyone focuses on burst damage. All of these are not in Maokai’s kit. He’s too slow to move around the map and his skills are easy to dodge. That’s why he lost his role from Top lane or Jungle and only makes him mediocre Support. Currently, he only has a 48% win rate with a low 0.7% pick rate. Maybe another rework can fix him but he might lose his original kit.

Kalista

The Spear of Vengeance is one of those champions that have many requirements to master. She’s not completely forgotten since she will be one of the main characters in Riot’s incoming novel, Ruination. Her gameplay however is not for everybody. Kalista is one of the most mobile champions in the game and that’s her problem.

Everything is focused on her mobility that’s why all of her other skills are mediocre. Despite her mobility, she does not have enough utility like other champions in her role. She’s in constant need of support and her ultimate skill even requires another player to use it. Buffing her damage will only add more problems. Maybe a rework of her skills that adds utility can solve her low usage rate.

Ivern

The Green Father is probably the most unique of all champions. He’s the only viable support champion in the jungle role. However, this unique playstyle doesn’t persuade the player base. As of writing this, he has a 0.74% pick rate with only a 46.71% win rate. These numbers are very low and the main reason for that is his role.

The Jungle is the most complex and enigmatic role in the game. It is the most impactful role in any team as jungles are the only role that can shift the outcome of the game. That’s why jungles with high pick rates are self-sufficient that can carry the team. Ivern is the opposite of that since he’s a support, he enables his team to carry and not be the carry themselves.

His other problem is that he doesn’t have combat pressure. All of his skills are only for utility, he has low damage input but is the best in prolonging team fights. This is an issue since the game has evolved to be played at a faster pace. Ivern’s problem can only be solved if the game itself made major changes to make his role viable. This is why Riot may not fix his issues. He is well-designed and can’t find any reason to rework him.

There are still plenty of forgotten champions that need attention like Skarner, Aurelion Sol, etc. But as of writing this, Riot is fixing those problems as they mentioned in their Champion Roadmap.
