Filipino Dishes You Might Never Hear Off

You might already know this by now but, the Philippines houses different cuisines across its borders. Once you are in the Philippines, you know for a fact that you are in for a treat. While most Filipino dishes like Adobo, Sinigang, and Sisig went worldwide, there is still a lot to unfold. Brace yourself because here are some local dishes that you might not have heard of yet.

Pancit Puti Dish

You will be shocked to know that the traditional pancit that we know has its own unique clone. The Pancit Puti dish, much like the typical pancit we know, has the same ingredients. However, it is not the same at all.

The traditional pancit that we know consists of soy and oyster sauce. The brown color of the pancit comes from the sauce inside it. However, have you seen a pancit that is colored white? Yes, pancit puti does exist. The white color of the pancit comes from a creamy base of evaporated milk. It has that umami taste from the fish sauce and chicken liver that will make you want more.

Sinantolan Dishes

Ever heard of the fruit called santol? Well, pretty much that is the main ingredient for the dish called sinantolan. The sourness of the santol fruit compliments well the creamy coconut milk sauce on it. You can have the option to make it spicier, depending on your own taste and liking.

Sinantolan dish goes well with any fried seafood, especially local fresh fish along the bay. Imagine the savory taste of the sea-going well with the creamy yet spicy coconut milk sauce. However, the dish can be considered available only during the santol harvesting season.

Bibingkang Abnoy

No, it is not the usual bibingka that we see on the streets during the Christmas season. Bibingkang Abnoy sounds bizarre at first but honestly, you will be left speechless. Bibingkang Abnoy actually is not the actual bibingka that we used to know. It also does not look like any bibingka we know.

The bibingkang abnoy dish came from the eggs of duck in several parts of Laguna, primarily in Victoria, Laguna. As mentioned earlier, it is not a bibingka but instead more like a scrambled egg type of dish. Bibingkang abnoy goes well with a spicy vinegar mix as a dip.
