Apple Watch will no longer allow users to reply to Messenger notifications

Facebook’s Messenger app for the Apple Watch will no longer be available after May 31, 2023, according to a recent notification sent to users.

Watch users can still receive notifications on their wearables, but they cannot respond to them. This was clarified in the notification. Messenger allows Apple Watch users to share voice clips, likes, and stickers, among other things.

Reviewgeek reached out to Meta regarding the app notification. A Meta spokesperson responded, saying, “People can still receive Messenger notifications on their Apple Watch when paired, but starting at the end of May they will no longer be able to respond from their watch. But they can continue using Messenger on their iPhone, desktop, and the web.”

Messenger will be joining the growing list of Apple Watch apps that are being discontinued, which includes Instagram, Hulu, Trello, Twitter, and Uber.

As a result, Apple Watch’s fitness and health features have become its primary functionality rather than just another platform for other devices.

WhatsApp, another Meta-owned messaging app, will also be available as a Wear OS app a day after the company announced it would be available on Google’s platform. It means you’ll be able to send WhatsApp messages from your wrist if you have a Google Pixel Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, or another smartwatch.
