GAG! RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars 6 first two episodes are a whirlwind of emotions
So, I just finished watching the first two episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars 6. And bitch was a gag! I couldn’t contain myself. Emotions just keep coming—they’re a whirlwind.
First of all, I would like you to check my first article about this season. There you would see my expectations for not only the show but also the queens. You would also see who I think would do good and who my bets for the crown are. I want you to do that to see how some of them might have changed, just with this week’s two episodes.
Honestly, I have already watched some spoilers on YouTube months ago. That means I already have an idea who the top three are. I already did that for All-Stars 5 and the spoilers turned out to be true.
With that said, there’s a huge possibility that it’s the same for this season’s spoilers. Oh, how I hated myself that I watched it. I usually don’t like being spoiled. It just so happens that I am so excited.
A disclaimer that I would like to make knowing how some Drag Race fans are: These are just my opinions. They are not factual. Things that I will mention here are just based on my own taste. if somehow you don’t agree, you can always tell nicely.
Also, the opinions that I would put here are not meant to negatively affect the queens in the competition. I am not a drag queen, so my opinions are just based on being a Drag Race fan. Their art is beautiful, I respect it, and I believe all kinds are valid. I also think all of them are talented. Receiving criticism from me doesn’t mean that I hate the queen or that I think they’re untalented. Please don’t send me or any of them, hate. Thank you.
Another, SPOILER ALERT! I will be talking about some spoilers in this article because this is a review. If you haven’t watched it, please stray away from this. Come back after watching it.
After getting all of that out of the way, here are my opinions about the show.
All Stars 6 recap: The difference of some of these queens’ attitudes compared to their past seasons
I chose to put Ra’jah for this plot point because she has improved a lot in terms of attitude. I am pretty sure she is not an evil person. However, she was put in a certain kind of light in Season 11. This made her receive a ton of hate amongst the Drag Race “fans”. Personally, I didn’t like her attitude in her season because it was too much. But I didn’t hate her. (I never hated any queen, to be honest)
With that said, in this season, she had said in her Meet the Queens video that she is a bad bitch. But in Season 11, she was just a bitch. This means that she’s self-aware. This actually kind of showed because, henny, this queen is very likable in this season. Her comments might be shady at times, but they are all in good light. They were funny and not just outright mean.
Another thing that I would like to point out about her is that she’s very talented. As I said, all of the queens that decide to join the show are pretty much talented. However, Ra’jah clearly decided to show it in this season. Not only does she come off as very girlfriend vibes and likable. She’s also done great in both the show’s maxi-challenges.
This queen didn’t come to play. She came to slay. Oh, wait, that’s Shea. Well, we don’t know. She might end up winning liker if she continues this amazing personality and talent.
Other queens who I thought show improved attitudes are Ginger, Scarlet, Silky, and Jiggly. Ginger also had the villain edit in her season. Now, she’s genuine than ever and had more heart. She was like this in All-Stars 2 as well, but she was sweeter here.
Scarlet, on the other hand, was more likable. She is not overconfident or delusional, as other people liked to put her in her past season. Here, she is more calm and collected. This queen is not only more focused, but she is also more determined. She is one of my favorites and I hope she continues to make me proud.
Meanwhile, Silky is not that obnoxious, compared with Season 11. She’s quieter and listens to everyone as she speaks. Jiggly, on the other hand, is much more confident in herself. Of course, that comes with being more comfortable in her own skin after finding her true self.
However, sadly, there is a negative. One of the queens who I was the most excited about is Yara Sofia. I’m not saying she’s a bad person, of course. But I think the producers did her dirty. The editing clearly focused on her winning in the first challenge, of course. The sad thing is, on the next, they focused on making her look overconfident and cocky.
If ever she was kinda confident, the producers made it more evident. They made her look like an arrogant person. Personally, I don’t think Yara is like that. They could’ve shown it in a comedic way, but they chose to do her dirty. If she really came across as arrogant, I’m pretty sure the queens would’ve voted her off instead of Jiggly. But clearly, they didn’t.
All Stars 6 recap: The variety show was okay and the fashion in the Blue Ball was exquisite
I don’t know how to say this, but the Variety shows in All-Stars seasons are kinda repetitive for me. A bunch of queens will always dance, lip-sync, and twirl to very autotuned performances. What I mean is I want to see something interesting and different. I want to see “variety”.
What I noticed is that I usually enjoy performances that are unique. Say, for example, Bendelacreme on All-Stars 3 or Scarlet Envy’s bubble magic in this season. I’m not saying they are the best, but it keeps the show fresh and unpredictable. Well, that’s just my two cents about it.
So, I just watched the Pit Stop for episode 1 of this season and I agree. Bob and Trixie said that Jan was obviously the best. This is the peak of Jan’s talent and she clearly showed. However, Ru really loves saying the word “safe” in front of Jan. She always picks the weirdest variety show performance in every All-Stars season. Not the one who made an impact or really showed talent.
I get that Yara’s performance was entertaining. Actually, I laughed at it very hard. Sadly, I think Jan’s performance deserved more credit and appreciation. She is clearly very talented, but Ru just loves robbing her. Anywho, I was still happy for Yara. But I think Jan deserved the win more.
On the other hand, let’s talk about the maxi-challenge in the second episode. Wow, I don’t think this is something that All-Stars seasons usually do. Design challenges, yes, but a ball, no. But oh boy is this the right choice. I was gagging over some of the looks. I can’t elaborate on this and make a list of every look that was good, but boy it was many. All I can say is that this is really All-Stars with what they brought to the table.
The looks that they brought with them are mostly good. For the Blue Better Werk category, my personal favorites were the looks of Jan, Silky, Scarlet, and god, Kylie Sonique. However, my least favorite was Ginger—too pedestrian—and TKB’s—oh god, awful. The shape and the fit of the latter were just wrong.
Next is the category, Blue Jean Baby. Here, multiple looks slayed the runway for me. Particularly, Kylie Sonique, Eureka, Jan, Scarlet, and A’Keria. Meanwhile, the worst looks are still both Ginger and TKB. I’m sorry for this, but Ginger’s outfit needs to be more elevated than that. On the other hand, TKB’s had potential, but the shape and fit were wrong once again.
Lastly, the most awaited part, the Blue Ball Bananza. Now, these queens are impressive. I just can’t believe they made these amazing looks. I gagged at almost every single one at them. My tops were Scarlet, Ra’jah, Eureka, and Trinity. The worst looks on the other hand are Yara Sofia, Pandora, and A’Keria.
I watched the episode with my sister, and we were gagged when the judges liked A’Keria’s look. The shape and fit were wrong, how the dress moved was wrong, and the materials used were weird. I tried my best to look for positive feedback for this, but it didn’t just do it for me.
So, Ra’jah won. I think she deserves it. Her first two looks were beautiful but not gag-worthy. But that the dress that she made was really beautiful. It was very high fashion. The material used for it was genius, the shape and cut was perfect, and how she sold it to the judges was great.
However, I felt like Scarlet was robbed in this episode. Her first two looks are actually very beautiful and the dress that she constructed was jaw-dropping. It looked like it was done professionally. It was flawless. She should’ve been at the top with Ra’jah, Eureka, and Kylie Sonique.
The bottoms were Jiggly and Yara Sofia. I think it was rightful. Jiggly didn’t particularly bring any memorable look. And Yara’s eleganza look was just wrong in so many different ways.
The end of both episodes was very sad. I was sad that Serena Chacha was eliminated, because, although I am rooting for TKB, I think she did worse than her. Also, I was sad for Jiggly because I think she’s very talented and she could’ve shown more. However, it is what it is. All of them are very talented and they will be gone one by one. That’s just how the game works.
My final thoughts
So, overall, I think this is a very talented set of girls. Their personalities vary in so many different ways and they are so good with their craft. Two have already gone home just for this week and that’s sad.
I just wish girls like Jan and Scarlet gain a lot more attention. Personally, I believe they are more talented than how the show paints them to be. I hope their talents and efforts can be recognized and appreciated as much as the other girls.
In addition, I would like for the show to really do something interesting when they bring the eliminated girls back. They always set that up, but they can’t really think of something interesting. Also, the girls who came back usually leave again soon, so…
I will repeat, I have already seen the spoilers for this season’s top three. However, I really hope that the spoilers are wrong because I still want to be surprised. Disregarding that, my favorites at the moment are, of course, my queen Jan, Scarlet Envy, Ra’jah O’Hara, and Kylie Sonique. I hope they continue their greatness.
