Put your old gadgets to good use, donate them to students in need
The new school year is just around the corner but it’s nothing like we’ve encountered before. Due to the pandemic, the education system is affected and was forced to adjust to the new normal which enables learning from home.
However, majority of Filipino households are currently suffering from financial losses. This is caused by being laid off from jobs to cope with the inactive economy. This left families in dire need of monetary support to send their kids to school.
As our students enter this uncharted territory, let us seek ways to lend a helping hand, in however we can. The country’s Department of Education will be adopting “modular” distance learning and this requires the students to at least have a functioning gadget at home in order to join his/her class.
You can make good use of your old laptops and other gadgets. Donate to these initiatives you can look up online that aim to help students with e-learning:
Bayanihan para sa Distance Learning
Since July, The Office of the Vice President have been accepting items such as smartphones, tablets, laptop, desktop computers, cables, printer, speakers, etc. All you have to do is send your name, contact details, and list of items to donate to ovpdistancelearning@gmail.com or via their form and wait for their team to get back to you.
Streets to Schools
A donation drive put up by students from University of Santo Tomas. This aims to fellow fellow students in need of old gadgets lying around. Of course, they also accept items for repair!
One Gadget One Child
This 54-year-old woman from Cebu City gathered volunteers as they welcome secondhand smartphones, laptops, or tablets. Her bank account; funds gathered will be used for the distribution.
Kapwa Para sa Kapwa
Gadget donations spearheaded by the Angat Buhay Young Leaders in Government Fellowship. This is a program of the Office of the Vice President and the Freidrich Ebert Stiftung. It consists of the Ladiyawan youths from the communities in Taytay, Rizal and Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Ayala Foundation and PIOPIO
This local brand have partnered with the Ayala Foundation to benefit students preparing for the new SY, via their “donation tickets” on their website, with prices ranging P200 to P20,000. In facr, three donors will be chosen to receive some PIOPIO goodies as a token of gratitude.
Other initiatives in same pursuit are Gadget Mo Para sa Distance Learning Ko, Kaagapay sa Pag-Aaral, Salindiwa, and Ayuda Pang Eskwela, which are all open for donations and accessible accross social media to this date.
