OPINION: Proven natural remedies I tried
Many people have turned to natural ways of treating themselves, and I’m one of them who believe that our body can heal itself along with remedies like foods and plants and herbs as medicines. Based on my experience, I used natural remedies because they worked on me. Besides, even scientific findings can back up the effectiveness of some of the remedies to treat mild illnesses or conditions.
However, natural does not always mean it is a better or safer option, especially for severe and complicated health conditions. Essentially, it’s much better to educate yourself, take precautions and consult with a health expert before you gravitate toward natural remedies.
Ginger tea for cough relief
At first, I was hesitant to drink ginger tea because of its sharp and spicy taste; however, my mother told me that it would help treat the dry cough. I infused my ginger tea with lemon and honey as these two ingredients contain beneficial properties. After drinking ginger tea for three days, I experienced significant relief in my throat, and my cough was no longer persistent. In addition, there was some evidence that ginger is a good natural remedy to soothe an irritated throat. Ginger contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that reduce irritation and causes relaxation that clears the airways.
Apple cider for eczema
This flare began years ago when I noticed red, cracked skin on my right leg. Initially, I did not take it seriously, but it became increasingly sensitive and itchy. Eventually, I decided to go to a dermatologist, who told me it was eczema. When I no longer had the ointment to patch my eczema, I researched the natural remedy I could try to treat it. Then I found apple cider, a popular home remedy to treat other conditions.
Using this vinegar became my skin savior as, after a consistent application, it reduced the symptoms of eczema. According to Healthline, those with eczema usually have a higher pH level than those without it. Apple cider vinegar may help rebalance the skin’s acidity level, and it also contains antimicrobial properties reducing the risk of infection.
Coconut oil for damaged hair
Coconut oil is my favorite natural remedy to treat my dry, brittle, damaged hair. I used coconut oil as a hair mask and find it very effective in nourishing my hair. Due to environmental exposure, salon chemical treatments, and heat styling, my hair becomes damaged over time. Furthermore, research revealed that coconut oils contain properties that are beneficial for hair. As a matter of fact, coconut oils prevent hair protein loss, replenish moisture, and repair dryness. Indeed, there are many other hair treatments that you can find, but if you want to try something natural, coconut oil is the cheap and best natural remedy to try.
I can’t assure you that the natural remedies I tried will also work for you. It’s still best to consult a medical practitioner to ensure the proper medication and health practices are best for your condition.
