Balenciaga Haute Couture: Dystopian glamour for Fall 2022
Demna Gvasalia (creative director of Balenciaga) had once again played with the dystopian vibe mixed with glamour. This is how Demna visualized the Haute Couture collection for Fall 2022. The show commenced with a slew of black scuba ensembles from bodysuits, and dresses, to tops and gloves. One of the main gimmicks for this collection was also the launching of Balenciaga X Mercedes AMG face shields. The models wore it almost throughout the show and the looks becomes more glamourous and exciting as it unfolds.
Crystallized ensembles emerged along with the encrusted thick tweeds that give off a rich main-character vibe. There were also beautifully tailored trench coats with cinched waists, along with the streetwear pieces that add Demna flair to Balenciaga Couture glamour.
Later on, the rest of the models descended without the Face shield which reveals a subtle and natural makeup glam. The glamour continues to bless the halls of the historic salon with the participation of some stars on the runway. Dua Lipa emerged fiercely in a yellow dress with a long trail paired with black tights and gloves. While Kim Kardashian is serving a reminiscent of her 2021 Met Gala look (minus the covered head). Followed by Nicole Kidman who made an unexpected appearance with a bold metallic draped gown. Ultimately Naomi Campbell made her extravagant runway appearance with a black ball gown with a conical bodice.
Gvasalia wrapped up the Fall 2022 haute couture collection with a crystal beaded bridal ball gown with a dramatic veil that covers the entirety of the ensemble.
Dior Haute Couture Fall 2022
The Tree of Life Collection for Dior Haute Couture Fall 2022 is all about romantic and dreamy structured clothing. Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to create ensembles that symbolize rebirth and the ethereal beauty of cultures and traditions shared by the world. According to Chiuri, these bind us all together and yield a sense of optimism.
The motifs of the collection are composed of intricately designed floral embroideries with mostly floor-length dresses. Meanwhile, a plethora of neutral colors can be noted in the collection. While plant motifs and emblems added folkloric charm to the couture collection.
Although Haute Couture is commonly an avenue of blatant display of extravagance and craftsmanship; for Chiuri, you’ll get to see all the magic of their craftsmanship through the intricate beaded embroideries and the patchworks.
Valentino grandeur for Haute Couture Fall 2022
Maison Valentino; albeit a French house, opted to showcase their Haute Couture Fall 2022 collections in Rome, Italy where it all started. Pier Paolo Piccioli (creative director of the brand) paid homage to the house’s history; therefore, he called it The Beginning.
Piccioli wanted to create a body of work that encapsulates all forms of beauty mixed with the signature Valentino grandeur. The colors are mostly bright and bold (signature Piccioli colors) with prominent feathers from the headpieces to the dresses down to the shoes in an appliqué effect.
3D roses draping is also one of the motifs while sequined gowns and embroideries also emerged on the runway.
Olivier Rousteing understood his JPG assignment
Meanwhile, Balmain’s very own Olivier Rousteing is the guest designer for Jean-Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall 2022. The guest designer for this another iconic collection grasped how Gaultier breaks frontiers of fashion. He understood the unique universe that the house created for its clientele through its iconoclastic creations.
Although his duty was to create a solid collection for JPG clientele, he brought his signature flair which blended greatly with the JPG universe. Pinstripe suits are quintessential JPG that is a staple to the runway, while the leather bodices added Balmain-esque feels to the collection.
The collection also featured a look that is referencing the famous Gaultier Le Male perfume. Who would’ve thought that a perfume bottle would come to life?
From the conical bras to body-hugging gowns, it’s all from JPG house code. Exciting and shocking looks also emerged on the runway such as the beautifully woven rattan gown and a human cushion ensemble. Later on, two models emerged together in a molded bust of a pregnant woman. It’s something that Rihanna would definitely rock as a high-fashion child bearer.
After this opulent week, one thing is for sure, these looks are set to storm the red carpets, and fashion magazines, and will soon break the internet worn by our favorite stars.
