Healthy hacks to do when drinking alcohol

As a twenty-something-year-old woman, it’s hard to think of some kind of gathering without one thing: booze. Whether it’s a brunch with the girls or dinner with the beau or even a reunion with relatives, alcohol has become a common denominator. But, you have to make sure you’re drinking in moderation.

But, there are healthy hacks to do when drinking alcohol.

Being healthy while drinking is not impossible. However, drinking less is always healthier than drinking more. So, there are some considerations to make it work. Although some studies promote the health benefits of alcohol like red wine, there are experts that mention that no consumption of alcohol is the healthiest way to go about it.

When it comes to taking a healthy approach to drinking alcohol, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It differs from one person to another. Just because it works with one person, it doesn’t mean that it would work for you. But, there are hacks that anyone can do before, during, or after they drink. So, make sure you do them!

Drink lots and lots and lots of water.

When it comes to alcohol consumption, drinking lots and lots and lots of water goes a long way. So, you have to start off with a large glass of water and lemon before you begin drinking any kind of alcohol. That way, you can avoid dehydration. It’s one of the oldest and smartest tricks in the book. After every glass of alcohol, consume a glass of water. This allows the body to naturally detoxify and properly filter while leading to more restful sleep that night. Plus, it can help out with lessening the hangover the next day.

Keep in mind that colored and flavored drinks are silent killers.

You just have to pass on the mixed drinks. This is high in sugar as it leaves you nothing more than a sugar-induced coma and definitely, a hangover. So, stick with clear alcohol like vodka, tequila, and gin. The colors and flavors in an alcoholic drink are the silent killers. Although it motivates you to consume more, it just results in binging and dehydration.

Eating a well-balanced meal before drinking alcohol goes a long way.

If you want to avoid the all-too-familiar and annoying hangover, you have to fill your stomach with a well-balanced diet. Consuming a protein-rich meal or maybe just a snack before drinking will slow down your digestion of the alcohol. This, then, ensures better blood sugar control. And, aside from that, it will also have less intoxicating alcohol effects.

Plan around your alcohol consumption.

Personally, this is one of the most important things I do before I drink any kind of alcohol. Whenever I would go on brunch with the girls, or dinner with my beau, or even a reunion with my relatives, I make sure that I stay up three to four hours after my last glass of alcohol. Eight or more hours of sleep is non-negotiable. So, put a realistic goal when drinking alcohol or even put a buddy system in place.

However, you have to make sure that this buddy doesn’t nudge us for one more drink. Draw the line and say no when you know you’re on your limit. Setting boundaries and drinking alcohol is not an obligation. So, be open and honest with the people that you’re drinking with. This is a health goal for you and no one has to force you to do so. So, if you’re invited and you want to drink some alcohol, it’s alright if you do but set some limits and boundaries.

Make sure you’re being healthy and drinking alcohol in moderation! But, overall, have fun!
