Keep your night stroll safe! Google Maps will be adding “Lighting” layer that will indicates well-lighted area for a safer night travel. This is just so coincident after the Makati allegedly abduction incident.

The happening left netizens the fear of walking alone at night time especially in Metro Manila — and just in time, Google is here to help our nighttime travelers.

Google Map’s new feature will allow commuters to avoid places that are potentially dangerous. According to XDA Developers, Google plans to offer a new feature that is designed to identify places that are well-lit. This will also make commuters knowledgeable how well-lighted is their way.

After media discovered elements in the Google Maps v10.31.0 beta code. It is expected that sooner a yellow highlight will distinguish whether the road or street is well-lighted.

Although it won’t calculate the routes’ light streets, it is still a great savior as it will allow users to differentiate the area in the digital map. Thus, this will also encourage the users to have modifications on their trips.

The feature is reported to be first released in India — a country where women’s security is a national issue.
